A wedding gift question...

We know this couple who's getting married later this month. They're young, and they don't have anything. I know that someone has given them at least a little bit of furniture, because they guy has moved into the apartment already. I went to Wal-Mart and got them some dish towels, etc. that they had registered for, and also a pitcher. Well, this girl was at the house New Year's Eve for our party and she told me that they really didn't have anything as far as household stuff. And once I checked their registry, they really don't have much. Someone bought them some sheets and a comforter set. They've got an iron, ice tea maker, and a few odds and ends. But that's about it. I can't afford to spend a ton on them, but we would like to spend about $30-40 more than we have.

I have several options, but if it were you... would you get them a small appliance that was around that amount, or would you get them a basket full of things like measuring cups, serving utensils, towels, etc.???

I was thinking of also doing something like a laundry basket with laundry detergent and fabric softener and some towels. Or a basket with cleaning supplies, trash bags, etc.

Anything creative anyone else can think of?

That is a tough one. While the necessities are things that would probably come in handy and that they would appreciate, it is also probably stuff they can afford on their own bit by bit while an appliance may be something they can't afford for a good while. I'd make sure it was something useful though and not a juicer or some other luxery appliance like that.

Ooh I like the laundry basket idea!

Honestly, I would prefer a gift card because they will probably get more than one and can go get the things they need that they didn't get but be able to pick out styles colors brands, etc...

When my sister got married with nothing, a few friends got her different baskets.
One got her a dishstrainer full wiht kitch things, dish soap, small 4 cup coffee pot, dish clothes and such, some cooking utenisls(sp).
Another got her a laundry basket with launry room things, including a smaller laundry basket.
She got a trashcan(nice on) from 2 of our aunts, filled with Pantry things, a toaster and a set of four place setts off dishes ans silverware.

When we got married we had nothing so those are the types of gifts we got that helped the most. That and the money tree that a few people put $100's on

I like Michele's ideas.

If it was me I think I would do a kitchen basket you could put dish towels, dish detergent, dish scrubers, dishes, drinking glasses you know things like that.
