Late period but not pregnant

My period is now 9 days late, I had a blood test at the doctors for pregnancy but it was negative (I had the blood test a week before my period was due). I'm not on the pill (haven't been on the pill since early November last year), I have had light spotting every now and again, I get a few mild cramps but no period (I usually get mild cramps a day or 2 before my period). Does anyone know what it might be thats causing this (hopefully nothing serious) If my period doesn't come by the end of the week I will see my doctor again. Anyone had this happen to them?

Geez girl, if you had the blood test a week BEFORE af was due, no wonder it was negative
Go to the docs tomorrow and get another blood test or go and get a HPT now, cause I bet you're in the club

I asked the doc if the reason the blood test was neg was because it was a week before AF and he said it doesn't matter even if I had the blood test a week after its still the same, but I will take another hpt. Thanx for the reply.

Do blood tests give a false neg if they are done too early? I didn't know that.

You could be having a non ovulating cycle. I just got over one of those with an opposite effect. I would call and ask my dr.

Blood tests measure the amount of HCG in your blood which is produced when you concieve....so it might still be too early and the amount is not enough to be detected on the test ... or you might've ovulated later that usual which means that implantation might happen later and therefore you can get a false negative test HTH and GL

Seriously...go buy a HPT today and test.

I have this happen all the time, but they can't figure out why. Last year this time, I went 4 or 5 months with no period .. then it just showed up again. Right now, I just passed 2 months without one. Screwy hormones.

My understanding with all the blood tests I've had in the past is that a blood test is so sensitive that it will pick up even 1 little pregnancy hormone. Of course, sometimes the body does crazy things and your cycle could be off. Either way, I'd go ahead and take another test if I were you ... what do you have to lose but a few $$?

Ummm.. I had 2 negative blood tests.

1 was early August 2003 then another 1 week later. Those both came back negative. I took Provera for 10 days to start my period and never started.

September 1st 2003 took another blood test.

VERY pregnant.

I got pregnant July 12 2003

I would test again, like Dawn what have you got to lose but some $$$$.

Good luck!!!! If it does come back negative-it could just be your cycle is a little off this month.

Were you having pregnancy symptoms with it? I have big, sore breasts, bloated stomach, stuffy nose so maybe I am pregnant, who knows?

Did they do just a regular blood PG test or beta HCG test? With a regular test they don't measure the exact amount of HCG in the blood...it will come back --- if the HCG isn't at a certain level. With a beta hcg they measure the exact amount.

Good point Bridget! A beta hcg is what you want.
