I LOVE THIS BOOK! I could say to Alice (17 months) "Where's the duck?" And she could point him out on the page. And "Where's the cow?" "Where's the cat?" Etc. And we can do the animal sounds,...
My girls were bought up to think it was completely normal to ask for a breast in a shop," she says. "Thats bad enough when they are toddlers, but when they are big girls people get freaked out by it"
"I try to be discreet, but we have had some odd looks. People tend to be digusted and disbelieving."
No kidding lady!!!!
Hell's bells, a toddler doesn't get food whenever they demand it (I don't care wether it is breast milk or chocolate milk) they get told wait until we get home. I thought she was nuts when I thought she was just b/f an 8 year old at home but to do it in the middle of a shop for goodness sake. At 8 the child is old enough to wait. And a grown woman with an 8 year old sucking her breast in public is very lucky she has not been arrested.
That is too old. What happens when they get married and they're not ready to be weaned. A kid won't want to be weaned cause they won't know any different than breast milk.
She couldn't afford birthday cake? Why in the world would you do that? I'm all for breastfeeding, but when the kid can play tennis, the time to wean is long passed.
I too am ALL FOR breastfeeding (Lauren was nursed for a year, and then just at night until she was almost 2 years, even then I was a tad embarrased going passed 1 year) - and expressing is one thing... but actually suckling off the "teet" is a whole different thing...
Why wouldnt this be considered a form of Child Abuse? why is this NOT child abuse? or molestation? those kids are going to have serious problems - thier normal development is being delayed from this... UGh! I didnt even read the article..
I don't think I would call it abuse or molestation...I know these are different circumstances, but children in 3rd world countries are nursed for probably about as long as this girl is nursing. I personally think it's a personal preference for everyone, and would never consider turning someone in for it. That doesn't mean I have to agree with what she's doing, because I personally would never nurse an 8 year old.
And for the record, I do not want this to turn inro a heated debate here. This is a forum for supporting breastfeeding mothers; if you think you're going to debate about it then please take it to the Debate Board
Wow That's just too old. If nothing else they need to learn that you don't get food on command at 8 and 9 years old. I'm ok with people breastfeeding but this is just a little odd.
I'm all for breastfeeding and plan to breastfeed my daugther until 2 years old but 8 and 9 years old is way to long to be breastfeeding. They should be weaned and be drinking out cups not drinking still out of their mothers breasts.
I'm all for breastfeeding but HOLY COW!!!!! 1 year WTG!! Obvoiusly by my signature 2 yrs ok great job, I can handle 3yrs and swallow 4, even at 2 child you can wait till you get home, but 8 and 9???? and in a store!!?? WOW!!!! What a dedicated mommy she is
