Does anyone know anything about these cribs that can be rearranged into a toddler bed, a twin bed, etc? My husband is sold on these and I admitt, I think it is a really cool idea. Has anyone ever used one? Are they as nice and useful as they appear?

Thanks, Krista. I thought that might be the case. Steve is talking about buying a kit and making one.

My friend did that & it was beautiful! If you have the time I would let him go for it!

We also have one of those cribs that turns into a toddler bed and then if you buy a twin size frame, you can use the two end rails as headboard and footboard for a twin bed.
We like ours and Alexander likes his toddler bed, even though he only uses it to play on since he's still sleeping with us. The only problem I see is what Krista pointed out - if you have a second baby while the first is using the toddler bed, you have to buy another crib or toddler bed.
We are lucky that our SIL gave us her toddler bed so if we have another while Al is still using the crib turned into a toddler bed (if we ever get him sleeping on his own!!), we will switch him into the extra toddler bed we have and use his as a crib again.
You can get toddler beds pretty cheap, unless you want the race cars or boat shaped ones.
If your husband makes one, that will be a wonderful heirloom to pass down!!

I found a Graceo (sp?) 4 in 1 crib for $99 which I thought was pretty reasonable, but he hated it before he even saw it because it was white. He says white is genderbaised towards girls and what if we have a boy?
He also says, it is a sin to paint wood and besides he wants one which is stained red (one of his favorite colors). I think he just really wants to build it himself. I never thought of it being an heirloom. That is a wonderful idea! I will tell him your idea. He'll like that!

We spent a lot of money on our regular crib but I think we're getting our money's worth out of it. We haven't taken it down (except to move it) since we set it up almost 4 years ago! Whenever one grows out, we have another on the way
I've never used a toddler bed either. However other than the problem of always needing a crib, I have heard good things about the convertible ones. It sounds like a great idea for your husband to build one.

We have one that goes from crib to toddler/day bed to full size bed. It comes with the extra slats, all you have to do it buy the full size mattress when you are ready. Admittedly, it was very expensive ($350), but it is gorgeous and even has a built in drawer underneath that you keep no matter how you are using the bed. I think it is more than worth it!
