The school sent a book home with Jonathan on Monday. They have done this twice before. The first one was about colors. This one is called Ten Black Dots. It’s numbers, etc. Well, I opened it up and read it to him as soon as he got home, and he loved it. Later on he brought the book to me and I opened it up and the little turkey started reading it to me. He knew most of the words. (A lot of it was repetition.) I had to help him with ones he wasn’t familiar with. he got “for” and “of” confused, but he knew a lot more of them than I thought he would. And he is trying to sound out the ones he doesn’t know. And most of the time, he’s not that far off. He is really reading! I wanted to get (or make) him some books that he can read completely on his own. Simple words that he already knows. He gets so excited when they are words he knows and he can read the whole thing.
I was thinking that I might be able to print my own on 8 ½ x 11 paper. We have some of that perforated stuff made for spirals, and some of the spiral things, too. I was thinking I might make him one of those since I have some free time this week.
Any ideas? Or can anyone recommend some good beginning reading books?
