Haley has a habit that is driving me mad!!

Her hair is almost butt length now and she likes to twist it around her fingers ALL THE TIME! She was born with a ton of hair and she used to rub her head while she was falling asleep as a baby. It was so adorable. Her hair seems to have become like a security blanket for her now though. She does it while she's napping at school, watching a movie or riding in the car. I wouldn't mind so much, but she wraps it so tight that it cuts off the circulation to her thumb sometimes! The daycare teacher was in a panic one day because she couldn't get the hair undone and she had to cut a piece. I'm having to cut knots out of it almost every morning that I cannot get out. I've tried detangler spray with no luck. I started braiding her hair because the circulation thing really scares me, but she just takes her hair down. I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this or if you have any suggestions. I've threatened to shave her head, but I could never even cut it.

I would consider cutting it. You could also try an award system with her. Braid her hair or something- if she leaves it in all day she gets a sticker or something. Kind of a cheesy idea but that's all I've got. Good luck

My girls dont have long hair. I cut Lyssa when she was about 2 and we've kept it short. Kate's is real short too.

I have to agree with Tonya though. If it was real bad I would cut it shorter. IF you REALLY REALLY Dont want to do that then I think you should go with the reward system. SOme of the ladies here have soem great systems for different things - I'm sure someone could help you come up with something.

Brandon has always twirled hair. Before he got his buzz, he would twirl his. After that, he started twirling mine. Whenever he sits next to me, he is twirling my hair. I love it. I think it is cute. It is his security "blanket" also. I can remember sitting with my mom on one side and me on his other, and he was twirling both our hair. I can imagine it must be a pain to get the knots and stuff out, but would she be upset if you cut it?

I had hair down to my butt when I was a kid. I'm still sad that I decided to cut it when I was about 10, I donated it to Lock for love though. Anyhow...I'd try the reward system. Otherwise I think you'll end up cutting it anyhow, hopefully she'll like getting a sticker or something. good luck I hope you don't have to cut that beautiful long hair.

Thanks for the ideas! I think I will go with the reward system.

Cutting it is definitely not an option. She gets so upset when I tell her we're going to have to do that if she doesn't stop getting her thumb stuck in it. Plus it would just kill me to have to do that.

I think I'll buy a lot of cheap toys from Dollar Tree (love that place!!) and use those as her rewards when she goes a week without taking her hair down or something.

i hope the reward system works for you

Maybe consider a combination? Cut her hair a bit shorter - say, mid back length - to help minimize the knotting problem and give her rewards for leaving it alone?
