We've been discussing it and we think dd may need glasses. I needed glasses at her age, but didn't get them until age 6. Dh does not wear glasses. Every single person in my immediate family and 99% of my extended family all wear glasses. Except for dh, all of his immediate family and most of his extended family also wear glasses. So the genetic tendancy is definitely there. How old does a child need to be before taking her in to get glasses?

I know of one little girl who was wearing glasses at around 18 months, but her eyesight was so bad she was declared legally blind so it didn't take much to figure out she needed glasses.
I think in the old days they needed to be able to talk to the optometrist and answer questions, but I know some optometrists these days can look into your eye with a special machine and a couple of minutes later the computer spits out what prescription lenses you need.
If you can find one of those then any age would be suitable as long as you can get her to sit till without blinking for a couple of minute and that is easier said than done.

I can't sit still without blinking.
And I see the optometrist more in one year than one human being should be forced to in a lifetime! I get really nervous before my appointments. It's all I can do to sit through them without having a panic attack, so I know they can deal with people who don't deal well with eye appointments. I read on Dr. Greene, they would dialate her eyes and measure them using refaction. I think I will talk to the Dr. about it at her three year appointment since nearsightedness is incredibly common in both our families. It's really no big deal to wear glasses.
