When you need help, are your inlaws there for you?

Do they expect you to be there for them, but are never there for you?

Dh asked his mother to help him get a webpage up this weekend and she ignored his request, when earlier in the week, she demanded a bunch of help from him on her job. That's the way she is. If she needs help, it is not a request. If you need help, she ignores that you even asked. Not all of the inlaws are this way. Just mainly MIL and some of the others dh doesn't like at all.

Nope, we can count on them and they can count on us.

I don't really know from experience (although they have never refused to watch the kids when I needed it) because I haven't been here very long but I know from things I've heard that they are ALWAYS there for their family. Not that they give handouts, but if you need something they will work with you to make sure you have what you need in a way you can afford or manage whatever the case may be.

My inlaws are cool with helping us out when they can (there are some things they just cant do) adn we help them when we can.

Same as Jennifer, we can count on her (both of them when FIL was alive and not drinking) and she can (they could) count on us.

Don't know about them helping us as we've never needed help. MIL did refuse once to babysit Brianna so Jay and I could go to movies, not nice considering Jay had paid for her plane ticket here and we only asked her to watch her twice while she was here. We have always helped MIL out.

It depends on the situation I guess.

Nope, and we would NEVER ask. I prefer to depend on my parents, we know they will ALWAYS be there, not just when it's convenient.

Yes, they help us out and we do the same for them. I know dh would say the same about my parents.

MIL will help ONLY if there is something in it for her. ( we asked her to stay with the kids so DH could be with me during my surgery--- her reply?????? Can't he do it another day? I work on Thursdays.

SO--- we call FIL ( they are divorced) and you know what? He DROPPED EVERYTHING and took the day off from work to help us!!!!!!!
