St Patty's Day

Does anyone do anything special for St Patrick's Day? How many Irish do we have?
I'm of mixed descent, including Irish. We don't usually celebrate St. Patrick's day, but this year I'm considering walking with our son in our St. Patrick's Day parade under the CODEPINK banner (a worldwide peace and social justice organization, http://www.codepink4peace.org/)

Did you know . . .
~ 147 countries celebrate St. Patrick's Day, including Sri Lanka, Japan, Indonesia.
~ The 1st St. Patrick's Day celebration was in Boston, not Ireland, in 1737.
~ In Ireland, March 17 historically has been a religious holiday "as big as Christmas."
~ 33.7 million US residents have irish ancestry.

Me, me! We make corned beef and cabbage at our house and have both families over. This year I scaled back since my parents are in Fl and we're only making 3 corned beefs. It's too time consuming to get ready after work Friday so we're celebrating on Saturday night with dinner. My mil also always makes Irish Soda Bread. Then we have fun and all make green desserts. And Irish creamer in the dessert coffee--we don't drink so we use the Coffee Mate Irish Cream instead of Baileys!

WOW! That sounds fabulous! Corned beef ... mmmmmm! You've inspired me to start a tradition, even if it's just Irish coffee and green dessert!! Have a blessed and happy St. Patrick's Day, Abby!

I don't know if our schools are doing anything or not. Jonathan doesn't go to school on Fridays, so..

Where I grew up, there wasn't a large Irish population. We always do wear green. But that's about it.

DH's dad's family is of Irish decent. But I don't think his parents ever made much of a deal out of the heritage thing. I'd like to do more things so Jonathan is more aware of his heritage, though.

My mother is a Fitzpatrick. I don't think you get more Irish than that! We have cornbeef and cabbage and a whole "irish" meal at least once or twice in March. Thanks for reminding me of the date. I thought it was today for some reason.
