KinderCare, LaPetite Academy, Montessori......ACK!

I've known kids in all 3 and heard good things about all 3. I'm sure it changes center to center though. A friend of mine had her 3 kids in LaPetite and absolutely loved it. Even at 3 and 4 years old the kids went on field trips and had regular "water days" throughout the summer where they played in sprinklers.
The one place that I know of that has a structure and style that I really didn't like (and it didn't help that I knew an employee who I didn't think was reputable at all) is Bright Horizons. They had policies against everything from babies in swings to childrens' art on the wall and were way too structured in their sched. for my taste.

I know 3 ladies that have sent their kids to Montessori schools. They have nothing but great things to say about it.

Personal expierence I would stay away from Easter Seals and Kindercare but these were isolated incidents that could happen anywhere. You have to just make a pop in visit and drive by's a few times if possible before you sign.

The La Petite here didn't impress me. Olivia is in a montessori and LOVES it. Each one is very different so you have to see if it's accredited. Also, montessoris (sp?) are based on child driven learning, so if Caleb isn't that kind of learner it may not work. For example, Aaron would absolutely bomb in a montessori, he needs direction and has a hard time staying on task. But Olivia works alone really well and has just excelled at it. She is 4 and is reading, has started learning parts of speech and fractions. My boys are in public school Kinder and can read, but parts of speech? No way.... Good luck, Liz, finding school/care is SUCH a PITA!

Ya Dana's right, if you like structured things Montessori wouldn't be my recommendation. Some kids do really well there and others don't. It's very self paced though. We're definitly interested in Montessori as an option when we have kids but it will depend on what our kids need too. good luck finding something you really like.

I've heard of them all... and I've done research online (checking out the web sites) just like you are. I don't have any first hand info though.

Liz... come to Connecticut... I'll give you a nice discount when I open my center.

I think that Montessori schools are fabulous! My neighbor has her daughter and son in one here, and one of my best friends has her two sons in the same school. It is great. They teach not only academics, but also life skills. So these kids put their dishes in the sink or the dish washer when they are finished eating and things like that. My neighbor's daughter knows how to set the table and she is four. They also have GREAT vocabularies and a broad world view.
The one thing about Montessori is that once you get into pre-K and kindergarten, the kids are being taught letters, phonics, etc, and their curriculum and teaching methods are vastly different from any public school you will find. So, if the kids go to Montessori for kindergarten, they need to remain there until 3rd grade or else they will be way off track for public school.
Another good school is Primrose Schools. I don't know if they have those in Nebraska.
