For those of you who home school?

What made you decide to homeschool your children?

I really debated on Home Schooling, but we are trying a private school for now. I may at some point decide to home school, but I like to say that I am taking an alternative route at this time.

I am going to start Pre-K this September with Elizabeth and then the next year start K.

My reason is because I know how kids are in school from my experience. I have talked to different people about school here in town...too many kids in a classroom. Teachers not spending enough time on one thing(subject...something new) and then moving on. In this area kids are passed to the next grade even if they are border line for being held back.

I want Elizabeth to learn and understand everything that is presented to her in school. I just feel that I can spend that extra one on one time with her.

I remember how school was when I was there...I didn't understand a lot, but the teacher didn't have enough time to spend with me. I felt like something was wrong with me. I remember one time in the 3rd grade...I wasn't getting the math lessons...I basicly sat there and cried because I didn't understand...the teacher showed me a couple of times, but I still wasn't getting it...she just told me to work on it.

Then when I got into high school...when I got home I had to teach myself...the teacher spent the whole hour yelling at the other kids...when the bell rang she said work on so many problems...I was like you didn't show us. ~~scream~~

I just don't want that for Elizabeth. I hated school because everyone would laugh or talk about me.

Right now it is because she isn't old enough for kindergarden, and all the preschool programs in this town are daycare/preschool and they don't want you just doing one of them.

Are you planning on homeschooling once she gets school age or are you sending her to public school?
