Yeah it bugs me too. And I think it is both demographics and generation. When I was growing up my mom did not have to schedule my play time.

No one I know around here uses the term 'playdate' it's just "can so-and-so come over and play" here as well. I don't like it either Liz.

It sounds kind of funky to me too. Too adult, I guess. Dates are for grown ups to me. Those girls sound very materialistic, Liz. Don't girls usually read Tigar Beat and giggle a lot?

Working as a nanny and in an upscale church nursery I heard the term "playdate" used all the time but it isn't a term I could ever see myself using in real life.

Oh and having a daughter right around that age, I can tell you that your average 10 year old girl does have conversations about how cute so-and-so is, which girl is the meanest at school, or what the best Hillary Duff song is right now.

And neither my children or myself has ever had a 'playdate' and we never will

We either went and "played at ............ house/the park/the school" or we just "hung out with...."

Yeah that's weird for me too.
I never had scheduled play time iwth my friends either..
and as a 10 year old little girl we talked about boys, what kind of big huge mansion we were going to own when we grew up ( ) not about a freakin' boat...



and.. btw.. Scott Baio is the babe!!

A lot of my friends with kids use the term playdate. I think its the new "in" thing.
