Riding in the front?

At what age did you (or do you plan to) let your child ride in the front seat? Jessica (9 1/2) is bugging the daylights out of me, wanting to sit up front all the time. I know they recommend 12, but does anyone really wait that long?

Haley does the same thing because I did let her a few times. I keep telling her no because it isn't safe but in all honesty I just like having my space and the passenger seat makes such a good spot to dump your stuff.

I don't know.
I'm not even positive what the law is in Connecticut.

HOWEVER, there is a girl in Kylers class that rides in the front with her mom. No booster or nothing!! She's 4!!!!!!

I get seriously annoyed everytime

Is Jessica a tall girl? I think it is a height thing more than an age thing.

I let my boys sit up front but I don't have passenger side airbags. I DEFINITELY would NOT allow them to sit up front if I had an airbag on that side.

I wouldn't sit in front with an air bag either. I'm not much over 5 ft.

I let Cori. Since we have the Trailblazer, it is hard for the 3 girls to ride together in the backseat--without a fight anyway.

I would go more by height... although i'm only 5' 2" and I sit in the passenger seat with air bag!

If you have an airbag could you turn it off? I know some newer model cars allow you to do that.

I think the age here is 8 or 9. Not sure.

I will have to let Haley eventually if I ever need to take all 4 kids out.

I let Brittany if w are here in town but anywhere else we are going she has to be in back.

Liz!

I have been known to let Lyssa sit up with me if its just home from school (we move her car seat)
BUT now that I have cleaned out the car - she likes riding in back again!

I think it would depend - if we were alone in the car I would prob keep them in the back (I have quite a few years to get to this point though) - butif there was a carload, maybe ??

Christian, Michael, and Devon are allowed to ride in the front sometimes.

IN NZ it was legal after they are 8 yrs old, my kids have always been tall for their age and no airbags in our cars either.

It's quite funny, they worked out a way to 'share' the front seat. Tk is in the front on the way 'there' and Rick is in the front on the way 'back', even now when we go out they still automatically do it the same way it cracks me up when they do it tho, but it has saved years of arguments (being the same age we could never use the "Well ....... is older so he sits in the front" Well not after Greg left home anyway.

Liz we had an attachment for our seatbelts that stopped that happening but I can't for the life of me think what they were called, it was padded and went pretty much over their chest, you slid the seatbelt thru one end and it pulled the seatbelt in a bit so that it didn't go on their necks, it was also good for people who are vertically challenged

I'll see if I can find a link to something on line later, but I have to get my kids up and in the shower for school now.

I think it's based on weight and heighth. The weight used to be 80 lbs.

My brother and I did this too. One got it on the way there and the other the way back. There's 3 1/2 years between us but it always worked.
