After 6 years on the lam, he'd finally been caught.
According to Reuters' news service, Shrek the merino sheep was wild and woolly when he was finally discovered in the lower Alps of New Zealand.
Musterer Ann Scanlon saw the creature, and first thought it was some strange wild animal. Then she saw the sheep nose peaking from underneath 15 inches of wool that had grown during the years he had managed to avoid capture. His owner figured he must have been hiding in caves and eating wild plants to have survived so long and managed the long winters.
When they finally caught and sheered Shrek, his coat weighed almost 60 pounds instead of the usual 11.
Shrek was a lost sheep who finally encountered the shepherd.
Maybe you're like Shrekyou've been trying to avoid the Shepherd. You prefer lonely caves of separation with paltry weeds. But the sin in your life has been growing and growing. There's so much, it hangs over your eyes and makes it hard to see. Its weight has made it difficult to move.
But the Shepherd is looking for you. He's waiting to remove the sin and guilt that weighs you down.
And just like finding Shrek made headlines across the globe, when the Shepherd finds you, there will be headlines across the heavens. In Luke 15:6-7, Jesus finishes the parable of the lost sheep with these words: "'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."
