I never used one. The kids slept in the next room and I could hear them fine at night. It was not a huge house and during their naps I simply left the hall door open while they were sleeping.

I think Jared was about a year old, maybe a little older.

Zach's going on 2 and we still use it. We have the Angel Care Monitors that monitor breathing. I don't turn the parent unit on in our bedroom at night usually but use the part in his room. It emits a loud alarm if it doesn't detect breathing. I'm a nut, I know. But after losing one baby there is no way I'm taking any chances. For naps if I'm downstairs I use it but I can hear pretty well even without it.

I still use it, and I'll tell you why.
When Emily was a baby, she was asleep in her basinnette RIGHT next to our bed, on my side of the bed. One night she woke up crying and I completely slept through her crying and didn't wake up until DH was getting her back in bed.
That scared me. I am afraid I won't hear her now that she is down the hall unless I use the monitor. MIL's room is next to hers, but MIL NEVER hears her when she wakes up because MIL takes stuff to help her sleep.

I dont use one either, and never really did. The only time I do/would, is if we go outside during the summer and the kids are napping inside, or if we are all downstairs and somene is sleeping. Aidan and Ryan are both loud enough for me to hear them from my room - its right across the hall.

We never really had one. I bought one with Jessi and would use it sporadically if I was going to be outside working in the yard or something, but our bedroom was always so close (or their bassinet was in our room) that we just never really needed one.

The first 2 months I used one when Matthew was taking a daytime nap. Michael makes so much noise playing it was difficult for me to hear the baby wake up while I was in the kitchen.

I don't use one anymore since Matthew is a loud crier and can pretty much drown out his older brother...

Jimmy was about 3 or 4 months old. I was ready because I knew I would hear and honestly I slept better not hearing is every sound.

We had one til he was about 2/12, and that's when we moved. Mainly I just used it for when he was in his room and I was in the basement or something. Now I don't even know where it is.

Not using a monitor

We went through some periods of also not using a monitor. But mainly because the ones we had were giving us problems.

I did find some great information here on video baby monitors in general as well as about common interference issues:

When shopping for our monitor I just had to be sure we got one that uses a different frequency than our cordless phone. I also learned that most systems today are 2.4 GHz and none of these will work in the home if you also have a wireless router/network.

Hope this helps.
