Brenna Grace's Birth Story

I'm typing this one handed as I breastfeed so please forgive any typos.

We arrived at the hospital at about 10:30 pm on Thursday after 4 hours of labor at home. After getting an IV started (I've got you beat Kim... mine took 4 tries) they checked my cervix and I was 3 centimeters dialated. After 2 previous 15 hr labors I was prepared for a long night. The contractions were strong and mostly in my back and coming every 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 minutes so I asked about an epidural. They checked my cervix again about 11:00 pm and I had already progressed to 5 cen. so they called the anesthisiologist. He was in surgery so didn't arrive for about another hour and after 2 attempts to start the epidural (I don't think either worked) I was fully dialated and ready to push. I'm not sure if I pushed 2 or 3 times but Brenna was born at 12:34 am on Friday, May 4th weighing 6lbs 10 oz. and 20 1/4 in. long

That's nothing... wait till I post more about my lousy anethesiologist's job on the epidural and the blood patch I had to get later on. There were far more needles involved in this hospital stay than I would have liked.

I am glad it was quick but I am sorry the anesth was a wack job

What is it lately with poor IV starts and Anethsethesiologists who do BAD epidurals?

Glad she's here!

Sounds like you had the same anesthesiologist I had with Ethan

This is making me really glad I have no choice but to do the sniff. I can't take medication by spine due to the MS and I'll be having a section, so I'll be asleep for the whole thing again. But better safe than sorry.

Too bad about the bad anathesiaologist (sp), glad Brenna is here. What a beautiful name Brenna Grace is.

Congrats on your new baby girl!! I'm sorry to hear you had such a hard time with your epidural. Since this is my first, I'm SCARED TO DEATH about having the baby. I'm afraid that I'll have someone do a crappy job with an epidural if I have one. A friend of mine just had her baby about 2 and a half months ago, she said it wasn't too bad, but the epidural machine ran out of medication during the last 20 minutes, so she had to feel things for a short time. I've looked at pics of women giving birth and all to see what I may be facing...but I get really sick to my stomach and feel like I'm gonna faint when I look. I've got 17 weeks and 1 day to go, and this all has gone so fast....I hope my labor and delivery is the same. Well anyways...CONGRATS AGAIN!!!!!!!!
