When the taxes came back last year, we splurged on a new microwave from Wally World. It was supposed to be able to act as a microwave, a toaster oven and a convection oven. In the last couple of months it had started to spark whenever we made popcorn. Eventually it just...stopped.
Well, we went "yard sale-ing" after last payday and found a microwave oven. It was bigger than the one we had, clearly older, but the owner said there was only one thing wrong with it: the timer didn't work...so you'd have to set another timer or watch the clock. They were asking the exhorbitant sum of $3.
We went on to the next place and went back about an hour later and purchased the microwave, a book for Ben 50 cents, a shirt for Chris $1, one for me $1, a toy for Trinity - 50 cents (the lady threw in 3 more stuffed toys). At another sale, we picked up a DVD/VCR combo - the most expensive single item at $15 - 3 possibly original Coca-Cola knick-knack boxes at $2 for all 3, a handful of itty bitty toy cars for $3. We spent $25 total.
So the microwave went for:
$2!!!!
