Every year, after Joey's birthday and after Christmas (both giant toy-accumulation times

), he and I go through all of his things together and weed out things that he doesn't play with anymore.
Sometimes, if we are planning a yard sale in early summer, we'll do it then, too - the deal then is that all toys he puts out he can't have back, even if they don't sell, but he gets to keep all the money from selling those toys. Last time, he made like $20!

And since I tend to buy him quite a few things at thrift stores, etc., when we take stuff to donate it I explain we're doing it so that another child's mom can buy if for them so they can play with it a while, and he seems to like that idea.
