Gifts for second weddings

My best friend from Jr. high and High School is getting married tomorrow. Obviously, she's 1500 miles away so we're not going to just drop by for the wedding. But, the thought crossed my mind today that I should do SOMETHING.

I was in her first wedding (9+ years ago) and she was in my wedding (6 years ago). She had a HUGE wedding and her parents went all out on it. I spent a lot of time and money on her first wedding. Spent $$$ on shower gifts (household and lingerie showers), stuff to be in the wedding, etc. Helped address invitations, tie ribbons on everything that wouldn't move, etc.

They have registered for a few things at Target, but not a lot. It's a second marriage for both of them. Neither have any children. She's been divorced for 4 years and he's been divorced for 2 1/2 - 3, and I don't think either of them came out of their marriages wiht a whole lot of "stuff".

What's appropriate in this situation? Buy something from the registry and have it shipped? Gift card? Card? Nothing?

I'd think about something off the registry or a gift card to where they registered. It's hard for 2nd weddings because they have most of the "normal" gifts people send.

Yeah, I know. I usually like to do a laundry basket filled with household stuff, (and usually towels or things like that that they registered for) but they already have utensils and things like I'd normally buy.

They registered for towels (5 each of towels, hand towels, and washcloths), a set of sheets, a thing of Corningware, and a toaster oven. and a couple of things that are in-store only that the website doesn't give a description on--just a product number. Maybe I'll go up there later.

I would send a gift card and a really nice card. DH and I experienced this, too, as he was married before and I had lived on my own for a while before we got married.

You could make them a "movie" basket - some popcorn, gift cards for a video place... Or do they like picnics? A picnic basket of some sort, maybe? How about a nice bottle of wine?

Just some thoughts.

Or something sweet and sentimental, but small. It sounds like they have all the basics like sheets, towels and dishes. Best wishes to your friend and her new dh.
