Nanny?

Help, Elaine, or anybody else who had experience being or hiring a nanny!!!!

What is a nanny expected to do?

When my mom was a Nanny, she just went to the doctor's office and watched the little girl while the mom worked. But I know other people have had live-in nannies that helped with household things, too.

Anything and everything from watching/playing with your child to housework, laundry, and cooking.
I had one job where I deep cleaned the entire house on a weekly basis (split into a few chores each day) and did most of their laundry and another one where the parents said that their child was my main concern and to play with her all day and keep our messes cleaned up but not to do anything more than that.
I also had one family that wanted me to take their child on outings and to appointments and another that thought their child needed to learn to entertain herself at home.

Personally I think that laundry, starting dinner for the family, and running the family's errands (picking up prescriptions, grocery shopping, etc.) are a bit extreme for a nanny but I've been required to do it in the past.

Just make your needs clear when hiring so that "this isn't my job" never comes up.
