Have you registered yet? Did they do a placement test?

They didn't do one on Kale and I'm slightly concerned about this?! They did something .. but it was not a placement test at all!!

Kyler is registered! We've already been to one orientation.
From what I understand, they have another one in Aug??

We had testing done, but mine was through the nursery school. When we went to the orientation, they gave me his results. It was more of a pass/fail test. Like, hearing, speech, etc.

I was under the impression .. atleast they used to do placement testing to place the kids in the correct classes

We signed a letter of intent to send Alyssa there to school. No placement testing - she will have the same teacher she had for Preschool since she is going to privagted school.

Registration is in early august.

Liz is all registered. We had our orientation night last week....then we have to go back again in september for another meeting. THey dont' do placement tests up here unless you are putting them in a total private school

When we went, the teacher took Brandon into a room and asked him a bunch of questions to see what he knew. I guess that was the placement test... she said he did great, just needs to work on knowing his birthday.

we got him registered... they did some "testing" on him... he didn't do too well b/c he's shy and got scared
we're waiting to see when/if they have an orientation

I registered Haley but they told me they won't do a placement test until school starts which sounds a little backwards to me. It's in the same building as her daycare though so I guess the ones that don't pass go back to daycare. I have no idea.

Well I'm homeschooling Rach...I'm using Gateway Christian Schools to register her through, but I haven't yet, hopefully in the next month I will.

When we went for "testing", there were about 15 kids in the group and the teachers took them into different rooms. Apparently they did vision, speech & hearing tests. They also colored a picture and sat while a teacher read a story. They didn't even ask her if she could read. The only results the parents got were if the kids needed improvement in any area.

Darien is going to a private christian school, so I enrolled him in the spring and he had an evaluation with the teacher at that time.

I think it depends on the school and the school system. My girlfriends daughter had a placement test but when Brittany went there was nothing. Both private schools.

Trey had a 3 year old screening and that is when we found out he needed glasses. They did so much more with the abilities and where he should be at this age...

You obviously don't remember all my b!tching about Jessi & Cody starting kindy then!

In NC at least, they don't do any type of placement tests. When Jessi started, they did a little eval in early spring, just to see where they stood. By the time Cody started, they didn't do any type of eval until September ... a month after school started!

They no longer "place" kids according to skills or knowledge. It's a crap shoot now. I've been round and round about how stupid it is to start them all at the same place and make them repeat learning things they already know or making the kids that learn slower fall behind while the rest of the class just breezes by them.

Can't believe the people that made these decisions were parents!

We have the eye/ear thing at the doctors .. required before starting school. But I was sure that it was still standard in Georgia .. has been all these years ... I've got a few calls in to a few friends at the BOE .. waiting to hear their call.

I was amazed when I took my son to register him for kindergarten. I was told by the school he didn't need to be there but I took him anyway because it was a big deal for him. My SILs all told me that when they registered their kids, they had to take them and the teachers did an assessment/evaluation of them that day so they could place them. Like Dawn said, they don't do that anymore which I just don't understand. Kids are gonna be entering school at different levels and it's not fair for those that are way ahead of their peers to have to be "bored" while the teachers re-teach them what they already know. Not a good way, in my opinion, to start an education. But maybe that's how they justify their AIG enrollments (i.e. more kids qualify because they are ahead of their classmates?)? This will be my first year with the public school system and I'm sure it's gonna be interesting . . .
