I don't think I can do it!

Hi, I'm 6 months along and I'm really starting to worry about labour, the thought terrifies me and when I was shown this woman in labour last week I fainted. I Don't think I have the strength to go through it! I want a vaginal birth but I have been told that I am quite small framed so the baby might not be able to fit its head between my pelvic bone. Also because of my age my body isn't designed to go through pregnancy and labour quite yet so I might have a lot of complications with a normal delivery. I'm absolutely terrified!

I think fear is normal. And as far as your body not being able .. once your body is able to create and carry a baby, you can deliver it. I was a little girls size 14 when I had my first baby at 19. Your body will do what it is supposed to do and you'll have wonderful doctors right there to guide you along the way.

Oh and trust me .. what I've read about you so far is that you are a super strong woman, so you'll be just fine honey!

Are you going to any birthing classes? Mine really helped ease my mind.

I was scared about labor too when I was pregnant with Nicole. But you'll do just fine! Once you go into labor your body will know what to do, and if you can't deliver vaginally that's what the doctors are there for! Read up on c-sections just to prepare yourself, I'm reading up on them this time around because I know my risk of c-section is higher, and it's good to be prepared for everything.

I'm small framed too... My poor husband, while I was pregnant with Nicole, a few of the guys he worked with kept telling him "She's too small, she'll never get that baby out!" Is it the doctor saying that your pelvis is small and you may have complications, or friends/family members/the crazy old woman you met on the street?

My little sister too... She got pregnant at 16, delivered vaginally at 17... She's a tiny person! Taller than me, but I swear she has no hips to speak of!

You will have the strength to do it... By the time it comes time to push you're only thought is gonna be get this baby out NOW! Lots and lots of

the fear is normal. This is my first pregnancy and I'm scared of delivery as well. Make sure you get as much information from the doctors as you can. I know everyone has advice for you but believe me not everyone knows what they are talking about. Our bodies are designed to give birth.

Rarely can a woman not deliver a baby because of her's or the baby's size.
I was 17 and only 108lbs (5' 7") prepregnancy and I had a very quick delivery. Labor is not easy and it can be scary but it is natural. Your body will know what to do and you will be fine.

I have been to 2 birthing classes so far, I don't have that much time to go but I'm going to try and go one a week up until the birth now. The doctor told me I have a very small frame and might find complications with a vaginal birth but he is going to keep an eye on the baby's head circumference and shoulder width or something?

Anyway, thanks ladies, you have eased my mind a little.
I will read up a bit on c-sections when I have time.

Thanks again for your support!

It's normal to be terrified. I think everyone is; especially the first time. I thought I would never be able to do it, but it ended up being the best day of my life and I actually can't wait to deliver this next one! I was 5'2" about 104 lbs. when I got pregnant with Haley and even my doctor said that she was too big for me to deliver. I ended up having her vaginally with no problems. Don't be scared of having a c-section either though. I know lots of women that have had them and they were just fine. Try to take as many of those birthing classes as you can. I bet they will help ease your mind a lot.

I'm not that small on the outside, but I am on the inside. My dd was at a major risk for head/shoulder hang up, so I had a c-section. I was 37 when my dd was born and I was still scared. My best advise to you is not to wait after 39 hours of labor to have a c-section if you are at risk for head/shoulder hang up. I was so very tired after not sleeping for 39 hours. If I had it to do over again, I would have opted for the section sooner. Try not to watch too many of those baby birth shows. They always scared the pants off of me.
