Aversion to the Hairbrush & Comb

My dd has an adversion to the brush. However, I am not letting her go three months with dirty hair or not combing it like one woman suggested. Right now I am dealing with rat's nest in her hair because her daddy told her that she didn't have to get her hair combed. He says he was just joking. Well, she dang well didn't think so! I get a god awful fit whenever I bring a brush her hair. He also said rat's nest is a derogitory term. That's what we called it growing up when your hair mats up like cat fur.

I haven't tried the commerical detanglers yet, however, I am going to try rubbing conditioner into the knots today while she's asleep and hopefully, that will soften them. Otherwise I am going to have to cut them out they are so bad. I told her last night this is the end. She's getting her hair brushed every day no matter what daddy says and not brushing her hair is what causes the rat's nests.

Jessi had (has) the same issues as well as clipping her nails (just to name a few). I had her tested last year, and we found out that she has Sensory Integration Disorder, which causes her to be much more sensitive to any type of touch, temperature changes, etc. It makes it very difficult to keep her hair neat, but I give her the opportunity to brush out her hair before I come do it. She's learned that she likes it much better when she does it herself.

Those detanglers do wonders and I also make sure she uses a good conditioner after shampooing. I don't make her wash her hair daily, but I do insist on at least 3 times per week.

We have a store called Marc's here in cleveland that sells Paul Mitchell supplies cheap. The Conditioner is an instant leave in and it really does work you just rub it in. I had the same thing when I was a child I use to hide from my mother. I know how your children are feeling I hated it. I remember one time getting pepsi in my hair and still refusing to wash it. I did however out grow this when I became interested in boys LOL.....

we don't have any problems with shampooing really. She'll rinse her own hair. She loves being touched. She constantly begs for hugs and kisses all the time. I think her daddy told her once too often that she didn't have to have her hair combed and she believes him wholeheartedly. Well, that's ending. She does have to have her hair combed every day like it or not.

very curly. The conditioner loosened some of the knots. I got the special detangling shampoo to try next. They were out of detangler.

I remember having this problem. I had REALLY long hair, my mom told me she'd cut it all off if I didn't sit still, and I'm sure I would have looked like a boy, she wasn't kidding. I learned to sit still and deal with it.

Good luck
