I was wondering how often you offered baby food when you first started? Do you do just once a day or twice or breakfast lunch and dinner? Any advise would be great!!! Thanks

We started Aidan around 4- 41/2 months... I started with just the cereal - but I would give him a bottle 1st so he wasnt starving ... I would do it nights for about a week, then breakfast and dinner, then I went to 3 x a day!

when did you add

So, I am starting with just fruit twice a day, when should I add a veggie?
I added Veggies 1st - After Aidan was on the rice for about 2-3 weeks, I started mixing veggies in it... Then after a few weeks trying out veggies I added in fruits... I did Veggies 1st - our dr told us to start with Veggies when Ryan was little, because babies will like the sweet of thefruit so if you start with fruits then they may not like the veggies... again I dont know if its true, I am sure alot of babies that had fruit 1st still ate veggies ... but I decided for both kids to do veggies 1st.

Then once I knew he wasnt allergic to what I was giving him, I did fruit and veggie at different times... like Veggies at breakfast and dinner and Fruit for lunch - or something

i was told to start veggies before fruit as well... same reasons
post #8 of 15
They say to start with veggies (after cereal of course) because if they get the sweet taste of fruits first, they might not eat veggies. Feed the same food for 3 days for allergies also. Ryan started with cereal at night, then I added it in the mornings. Now he gets cereal 2x per day and fruit/veggie at dinner.

thanks bunches

Thanks so much, the only reason we were told fruits first is because of his reflux, they thought pears and applesauce might be easiest on the tummy. So, I am going to give it a shot, but if he grows up and will not touch a veggie we totally know why, right?hahaha

Thanks to all of you for your info, this place is great

UGH! I wish my dr's told me that... Aidan had veggies 1st and he has reflux... I wonder if that made it worse???

hmmmmmmmm?

Wow, I am not sure. We see a pediatric Gastrointerologist, and when we started solids, (which were the fruits, becuase cereal had to be added to his bottle for thickening for the reflux) He said to start with fruits because Pears and Applesauce would be easiest for him to digest and keep down. He also had me stay away from Carrots and Peaches because of the acidity level, I do not think my oldest son (who had reflux as well) ever liked the gerber carrots, and he did not eat peaches until probably 9 months old and never favored them either. I was not sure if they upset his belly or if because I introduced them to late. I do know when he did eat those two he vomited terrible.

But not sure if veggies made it worse or not by starting, I am sure not. Every dr. is different, I am sure you did Great MOM

Thanks for that info!!!

That is VERY interesting... I believe what you are telling me... way back when Aidan 1st started his foods- the ONE THING he had bad reactions too was PEACHES!! I even posted about it because I couldnt figure it out... It ALL makes sense now.

I didn't start giving Isaiah baby food 3 times a day until he was 10 months. I tried before but he never liked it. He preferred the bottle! Now I give it to him and he eats the whole jar. I don't have to worry about wasting anything. He's eating #2 foods like a pro!!!

Thanks

Thank you to you all for such great advice, Konnor is doing much better with solids. We are still trying to get a routine down between bottles and solids, but things seem to be smoother running now

Thanks again for all the advice

I started with cereal once per day to begin with. After a week or so, I added a second feeding. Once I started veggies, I'd do them once per day and cereal once per day.

Just kind of follow the baby's lead. It won't be long before he'll want to eat whenever you are!
