Taking Your Baby Off of the Bottle

I made the mistake of letting Isaiah go to sleep with his bottle at night. He loves his bottle. It's his comfort. I've tried in the past to put Isaiah to sleep without a bottle in hopes of breaking him of that habit. Tonite was very successful. He cried for a little bit(5 minutes maybe) and is now quiet and sleeping. Is it too soon to get my hopes up? I would really like Isaiah to be off of the bottle by 1 year. He's eating 3 jars of baby food a day(#2). He doesn't really like the harder sippy cups and only likes the ones that have the same feeling as a nipple but a nozzle like a sippy cup. Is it okay to give him baby milk in his sippy cups or is that not recommended?

When did you get your little one off the bottle for good and how did you go about doing it?

Kate never took a bottle and with Lyssa I used to leave her with the bottle and when she fell asleep I would just go take it out of her crib so it wasn't there. I didnt really break her of the bottle I went on vacation with Kev and we left her with SIL and when we came back she was off the bottle - but she was 17 months or so at the time.

around 18 months i swiched his milk into his sippy cups instead of a bottle.

we never did the bedtime bottle thing, we were lucky and he would just go to sleep on his own from the start

i hope this is a great start for you Brittany!

I put Justin to bed with a bottle also. We did switch to the sippy cup during the day probably around a year or so like the doctor told us. I can't remember if we had a hard time taking that nightly bottle away or not. Good luck!

I started giving her a sippy cup at 10 months, and I would put her formula in it (I mixed it in the bottle first). By 11 months she was only taking the bottle before nap and bed, and by about 2 weeks before her first birthday she was completely off the bottle. I never gave her a bottle to take to bed, but eventually I did start giving her a sippy cup of water.

Zach only got bottles when I was at work but at 9 months I packed them away and gave him the Nuby sippy cup. No more bottles. He was fine. He also had a straw cup that we let him play with andhe got the concept of that quickly. I introduced all different harder sippys and by 1 year I had taken away all of the Nuby soft type sippys. I just did it and Zach never had a problem. He nursed b/f bed until he was just over a year old.

i got raymond off the bottle at 11 months completely. i just switched him to sippy cups and he didnt really tell the difference. as for him taking drinks to bed.. i would only give him water and he pretty much stop taking it to bed, he was bored with it. so it was before he turned 1.

both of my kids stopped taking the bottle around 11 months, when I switched them over to regular milk. Thankfully I never let them go to bed with one
