things you loved? live without?

What item did you get for a gift or buy yourself for the baby that you absolutely LOVED?

What item could you have lived without?

Loved the bouncy seat and swing. (for Aaron's and Olivia's bad tummies) Never understood the need for a basinette....
I agree boucy seat and swing are a must!!!

Diaper Genie was not worthe it at all.

I loved the Boppy pillow. I could not have lived without it. I also loved the pack n play with the bassinette part in it. We put Emily's mobile on it, and she would lay in there and watch it and laugh for half an hour at a time. It was how I got meals cooked and caught my breath. The exersaucer was great too once she was about six months old. I also loved blanket sleepers, as she never liked covers.
The baby tub was not as important as I thought it would be. We only used it for a few months, and could just as easily as have bathed her in the sink during that time. Also her portable swing was not a big hit, either. We used the Diaper Genie for a while, too, but I really didn't like it. I found it to be inconvenient and the refills are expensive.
Emily loved her bouncy seat, and it was great to feed her in since we started baby food at 2 months and she couldn't sit up yet. Also, since she was born in January, the wipe warmer was a nice thing to have.
That's all I can think of for now. If I think of other stuff, I'll let you know.

We borrowed a bassinette from friends, and Emily slept in that for a couple of months. Then we bought a portacrib, and I loved that. She slept in that until she was about 21 months old because we never put her in her nursery at our old house--it was way across the house from our bedroom, and I just never felt comfortable. We aren't going to even use the bassinette this time. We are going to start with the portacrib.

My dd was nuts about her Johnny Jumper. She loved her baby gym too. I never had a swing or an exersaucer. My dd was constantly on the go from about 4 months old when she started rolling everywhere anyway. I had a play yard with bassenet top. That came in handy for diaper changes.

bouncy chair for sure

diaper genie was a dud

a good change table is important in my opinion.
I have to disagree with the changing table. I mean, during the day, you will most likely change the baby on the couch.. bed.. floor.. kitchen table
We used our diaper genie with Duncan, and then tossed the durn thing. Too expensive.
I could not have gotten through breastfeeding Ky-Ky without the Boppy Heather sent me. ( Though .. gotta buy a new one LOL that one has had it. Kyan still will go to sleep on "his" pillow)
LOVED the swing and bouncy seat and high chair. And my walker.
The walker was great, too. Since Emily was born in January, we used it outside in the driveway and the garage during the warm weather. She loved it.
I loved my changing table, too. I never changed her diaper anywhere else if we were at home. I got in the habit, I am sure, because I had a c-section and I could not bend over easily enough to change her on the floor or anywhere really low. Once I got in the habit of using it, it was just more convenient to do changes on the table. Everything was there, it was comfortable, etc.

Baby Bjorn
Absolute must? Co-sleeper! Got it with Justin, wish we would have had it with Brandon. Since my guys all stayed in our room until they were 6 months, this has made it more comfortable then the baby being in our bed. Portable swing, excasaucer, bouncy seat also are musts. The swaddle blankets. It was always hard for me to swaddle the boys in blankets, cos just as soon as I would get one arm in there, the feet would be out. Made life much easier with Ryan. Though I would only get 1.

Not so much? Diaper genie. Hated that thing. It didn't really keep the smell out and I just found it gross to have a "tootsie roll" of dirty diapers. Wipe warmer - I don't know if we had a bad model or what, but it turned the wipes on the bottom brown.
Our wipe warmer does that too, but it was so freezing cold when we brought Emily home, we were glad to have it. The week we came home from the hospital, the highs were in the 20's all week. On the rare occasion we used non-warmed wipes, she screamed!
DH loved the Baby Bjorn baby carrier. I didn't use it as much as he did, but it was good to have.

I loved the Boppy pillow and the Diaper Champ. I also had an open top swing, which Jonathan really enjoyed.

I got a wipe warmer, but I didn't like it. It didn't really warm the wipes and it dried them out.

The diaper genie SUCKED!

Both my girls loved the swing and the bouncy seat.
I got way too many clothes. We got a lot of hand me downs, and everyone thought they needed to give more cute things. They outgrow them so fast. Cedric was born in May, and he mostly just had on a diaper and a t-shirt.
Diapers are a must, unless you plan on using cloth diapers. You don't really need any toys etc for the first 6 months.
And a high chair doesn't really come handy until around that time, either.
Of course, you need a place to sleep the baby, but I agree with Shona on the changing table. I changed them anywhere but the changing table LOL

Loved the swing ... a MUST have!

Could have lived without a bouncy seat ... none of my kids cared for it. They also didn't really use the backpack carriers.

Diaper genie was a waste, but there was a cheaper version by Fisher Price that was well worth it.

Another thing I had that I thought was really handy was a "Diaper Station" or something like that. By Prince Lionheart. I do remember that much. LOL! Anyhow. It was a clear plastic thing that had a couple of little compartments. IT wasn't very big. It held about 10 diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, etc. and hung on the side of the crib. That's where we normally changed him. I really liked it, because we bought diapers in bulk at Sam's, and I didn't have to lug the box of diapers out every time I needed one. and everything was right there at hand and organized. Not a necessity, but I really enjoyed it.

Waste... Diaper Genie. Looks like we are all in agreement with that one. Hey Mel I still have one here if you want to try it but dont register for it.

Must haves... Boppy was like number one. Then the bouncy seat with a vibrator.

Ok I'm definitly thinking the genie thing is out. I'm glad no one wasted money on it to buy it for me. I registered for a swing that vibrates too, it's the papsan style. That way I'll have both the swing and the papsan in 1 item and space is going to be at a premium in a small apartment.
Yeah you start filling it up with baby things and it is incredible how you can live with out other things.
I couldn't live without..

Swing
Sling

I could have lived without..
Crib(Nick was the only one of my kids to ever really use one, we mostly co-sleep)
OH yeah, I loved my sling, too.
We love the Diaper Champ. So much so that when Noah was born I realized ours was still in use in Zach's room and I was having to bring diapers in there at night. I was just going to get a small garbage can for Noah but Mike said to go get another Champ. Ours is in good shape...we empty them once a week and took Zach's outside to bleach after a year of use! We buy the cheap kitchen bags to use in it. The scented ones work great and are cheap.

I have the Aquarium swing and LOVE it. I like that it goes side to side (think the Papasan does too). That's great for a newborn.
I like my Diaper Genie II, not sure hwat the difference is between it and the other one *shrug*. I am also madly in love with the vibrating bouncy seat (she is asleep in it right now as a matter of fact LOL), the Snugli carrier (both front and back), and our wipe warmer.

For those who had brown wipes...did you add water to it regularly? I have never had a brown wipe issue yet.
LOVED our change table/dresser...nice combo! Got in the habit of changing her there and it's now a habit. Also, we designed a space-saving closet with stuff from Lowes. Really saved a TON of space so there was enough room for the toy box and rocker. Love the papasan and the exersaucer.

Not so necessary.... with Lauren, she hated the aquarium bouncer, but Ryan LOVES it. They both love his papasan LOL! Both of them HATED the sling too.
Zach didn't like the papasan chair but Noah does. The Aquarium swing was great for both of them. Zach would still be swinging in it if it was up to my husband.
i love the swing for both of my kids!! we had the side to side, front and back one too. Diaper Genie i had for Raymond but it wasnt all that, with Destiny i think i could have lived without the bassinet. she only slept in it for 2 months. but it was a gift from my grandma.
