Heartburn remedies

I'm having trouble sleeping at night because of the heartburn. I can't remember what they told me to do last time. Does anyone have any heartburn remedies? I remember about the not drinking during meals just before and after, and that's all it took last time. This time the heartburn is worse and it's setting in earlier.

I don't remember having heartburn before six months before. I can't believe I'll be 6 months pregnant next week! This pregnancy has gone faster than the last one.

I'm a Tums eater myself. I've just learn to avoid certain foods and to make sure I don't recline after eating for at least an hour.

I alternate between Tums and Maalox because, like Shona, I could down a bottle of Maalox in no time!

Maalox cherry isn't so bad.. if you chase it with water.. which kinda dilutes it LOL

Shona, are we sisters? That's exactly what I do! And I also will admit that I drink it straight from the bottle but I am the only one who uses it.

me to, straight from the bottle. And like you, I'm the only one drinking the crap. George went out and got me another bottle last night. See this is what I think is bad. Those of you having heartburn issues are way further along than I am. I am only 10 weeks two days or so pregnant. So that means I have another 30 weeks!!!! Of heartburn to look forward too!

I was eating so many tums I was making myself even more sick. At an appt my doc asked how I was feeling and said not to well. Did it have naything to do with eating a million tums? She said I coud try maalox but she recomended I go striagh tfor the zantac. I started it that ngiht before bed and didn't have heartburn for the rest of the pregnancy. I was like Shona too--it started realy early and was BAD. I couldn't sleep and it was painful. I bough the generic znatac at Costco. It was cheap and you get two bottles in the pack. One a night.

I use that too but unfortunately it doesn't work for me.

Contrary to popular belief, we get heartburn when we don't have enough acid in our bodies to break down the horrible (and in the case of pregnancy...any) food we have eaten. Not too much acid. So, I know it sounds disgusting but try drinking a tablespoon of vinegar (I like apple cider vinegar the best, white is not so yummy) right before or after you eat, or whenever you feel the heartburn coming on. It burns at first but after about 10 minutes, you will be so glad you did. I swear by vinegar because even water gives me heartburn anymore. Oh and make sure to chase with a little water to get the taste out of your mouth.

I had GERD (acid reflux disease) and had surgery six years ago for that and hiatal hernia, and none of my doctors, not even my specialist ever told me this. I have to admit that it sounds off the wall to me. I don't think I could try it.

ya I don't think I'd try it either. Mike has acid reflux and his doctor told him to stay away from acidy things. The one thing that's acidy that I never would have guessed is lettuce actually.

My dd was born with a defective stomach valve. I asked my pharmist (an older man with many years experience) about this treatment and he said under no circumstances to use it on her. He said it would make her reflux much worse.

Well, I have a hard time believing that it is caused by lack of acid when I was prescribed medications that inhibit acid production. Perhaps in SOME cases? I can't believe that's the norm. Of all the people I know who have problems with this, they are all prescribed acid inhibitors.

MIRACLE CURE! My doctor finally got me a med that medicaid would pay for and I LOVE IT!!!! I can drink OJ, and eat spicy stuff.. and it doesn't bother me anymore!!!

The generic is..Protonix

Just a suggestion. I was not told about vinegar by a mainstream doctor. I'm into natural cures, and found out about it by a non-conventional. Mainstream dr's. prescribe medications (which are full of chem's) b/c they get the kickbacks. Just like they will prescribe laxatives for constipation and bowel problems (which compound the problem and make it worse in the long run) instead of suggesting a thorough colon cleanse which will detoxify your body and rid you of MANY MANY other ailments.(which you should never do while pregnant or nursing btw. toxins get stirred up in body and passed on to baby...not good). Not trying to cause trouble with your doctors...was just a suggestion. Natural is not for everyone but it works for me. Have a great day!
