I did Alyssa's first one at home when she was about 2.5. Then I just trimmed it here and there. 2 years ago she cut it herself (3.5) and we went to walmart and got it done there. Since then I have only cut (trimmed) her banges so she can see.
With Kate I have only trimmed her bangs - I'm not cutting her hair

I haven't had Payton's hair cut yet but every year we take Emily to the Hairy Elephant for her yearly haircut and mani/pedi. This place is awesome because it is totally catered to kids. The chairs are airplanes, cars etc and there are tvs at every station. Even though they are a little pricier they are worth it. I would definitely look into bring the kiddos a place like that just to make things easier.
Don't do it at home. Take it from me, I know!
Last year or the year before (i can't remember) I tried "trimming" Emily's hair myself and ended up hacking off more then 6inches by the time I was finished!
I had to keep cutting and cutting bcuz she kept moving and then it was uneven. I don't risk it any more.
Emily would KILL me if that happened again! lol

I agree with Krista - go to a place that caters to kids. We don't have one real close to us - Hence the reason we did walmart(and it was a holiday and no one else was open)

MIL used to do Jonathans when they lived here. Then I did it a few times after he fell asleep. THAT was a job.
We have a place here called Cookie Cutters. I took Jonathan there. They have a DVD player at each station. The chairs are cars, planes, horses, and I forget what else. And they have a playground in their waiting area. They get to choose a video to watch while they're getting a haircut. Jonathan is terrified of clippers and scissors, so cutting his hair is like wrestling a wild animal. And they did great. I held him and she zipped through it. She was fast and it came out pretty good, considering. They had no problem with the fact that he was autistic and they were very good with him. And they get to take home a sucker, a balloon, and a shaped cookie cutter.
Last time he got a haircut was in August, I think. He needs another one BAD.

I cut everyone's hair at home. (well, not my own) I didn't start doing that until about a year and a half ago though. I used to take everyone to the salon with me. I use clippers on the boys hair and it's really not hard at all. Anna's I'm letting grow and I just trim her bangs every once in a while. I willl take her somewhere for a trim though, because the last time I tried an all over trim it was awful! The easiest of all is my husband though. He's not got much hair on top and he just wants it cut all over with the shortest clipper setting.

I do the boys themselfes, but with their hair structure, it's really easy. Jerome has really really tight curls, and Cedrics are pretty tight, too, even though not as cringly as Jerome.
We basically use a hair trimmer, set on 3mm for Jerome, and 6mm for Cedric.
Really easy and looks really good.
But I bet that would be way to short on a boys with blond straight hair

Every 8 weeks Jimmy gets a buzz from the same guy who has moved across town since Jimmy was a year old.
My ex cut his hair once and I wanted to kill him. The little girl down the street gets her hair cut by her mother and it looks fu*&ed up!
I asked her one day if she cut her own hair thinking no adult could have done that and she said no my mommy did. OMG I would die!

I prefer the boys to have short hair, they see the barber probably every 6 weeks. Olivia goes to a place with the dvds at each station as well, but it is only every 4-5 months or so for a trim (she doesn't have bangs). No way would I do their hair myself, I just don't have that talent, I wish I did, I could save some $$!

I cut dd's bangs once and that was it. She's never had a real haircut. If this baby had been a boy, dh would have taken him to the "man's man" barber shop he goes too. It has manly oozing out of the walls and into the street. They do a lot of little boys there as well as adult men. When I've walked past, the little boys always seem to be behaving really well. I've had the suspion that it's all that manliness, they want to be "manly" too.

I do Tori's bangs but not her hair. I wish we had one of those kids places around her, but well we live in BFE. I always take Tori to my niece though so it's at least someone she knows.

When we first started shaving Brandon's head, we bought clippers because we thought how hard can it be? First off, he does much better sitting in the chair of our hairstylist then he did for us. John ended up cutting his ear with the clippers and I swear he has a lumpy head, because it looked funny. So we gave it up and now take him about every 6-8 weeks, depending on if something like pictures are coming up. Justin has always gone to the stylist and Ryan will also.

I want to do Trey's myself but I am scared. He gets a #2 all around now so it shouldn't be that hard
Right?
I trim Brittany's bangs for her and if she needs more I do that too.

Zach has LOTS of hair. We let it grow until he was 1 year old then we took him a kid's haircut place, Snip Snaps. They have airplanes, poliuce cars, etc. for the kids to sit in. They have a play area in the waiting area and it's also a toys store (great, so we leave with a toy too
). They have cable and dvds at each station as well. Some of the older kids watch sports! The little ones watch noggin or a video. Zach's always doen fine. He was getting a 4 on the sides and scissors on the top so the curls would stay. Then we decided to go shorter and went to 3 then a 2 with scissors on the top. This last time it was really short and we are letting it grow in. He goes about every 8 weeks.
Noah has very little hair so far and it's really light so no cuts for him.

We do the boys ourselves. I was terrified the first time. We bought a set of clippers from wally world that goes from 1/8th in to 1in. I started by just doing the long one all over then decided to try the sides/back a little shorter. the first few times it was a little uneven but we have gotten good now. For anyone who decides to try it themselves(boys of coarse.....I would NEVER brave a little girls hair), do it the first time in the summer that way if you mess up you just shave it all one lenghth. Now Josh chooses his own lengths most of the time. In the winter I do 1in on top and 1/2in on the sides, summer I do 1/8th inch(almost bald
) on the sides and 1/2in-3/4in on the top.
If I had a girl she would go to my sister .....she's a stylist in a fairly pricey salon...but we get the family discount: in other words she does us at home for free
!!
