Are there any parents here that?

Do any of you not immunize your children?
I was pretty reluctant about it when Haley was born, but I ended up having hers done and I still do. My SIL doesn't get my nephew immunized though.

YES we do immunize! I think if your kids don't get shots, then all these diseases are gonna come back here to the US.

Becca I agree, there are a lot of things out there that if you AREN'T immunized for and happen to ever travel you can bring back strains from elsewhere in the world.

We've already decided to immunize.

We immunize. I was just reading the other day that there is a major mumps outbreak at Wheaton College and it made me so glad my family is immunized.

I have immunized all the children so far. I know some people that don't immunize, but it seems kind of unfair since the only reason it is safe to do that is because the vast majority of people are immunized. I do have a DVD that someone gave me on vaccines that I plan on watching.

About that mumps epidemic, I'm not sure but I imagine most of those people were immunized. There isn't a lot of info about how long some of these immunizations are effective. I know that whooping cough (pertussis) has started becoming a problem again too. The doctor thought my husband might have had it last winter even though he had been immunized. He didn't run a test though because he said he was going to prescribe the same treatment whether it was pertussis or not.

Logan is imunized, and will be getting every shot that the health department recommends that he gets

We do immunize. My MIL didn't want us too, (she's into all the holistic stuff) but I think more things can go wrong from not immunizing than from immunizing.

I think you're right Kristen. I believe they are now saying that some of these immunizations are wearing off and that is why we're seeing more Whooping Cough and Mumps.

With that being said, YES! I do immunize my kids. And I believe the same thing that Kristen said. It's really not fair that those who choose not to (not in reference to those that can't for medical reasons) are only protected because MY kids (and yours and yours) have been immunized.

We do.
However, my SIL does not. It was a huge "issue" within DH's family for a while. She didn't for "religous" reasons.
(Don't even ask me - I really can't follow her. Very nice, very odd.)

We immunize and will continue to. With the kind of work I do, I see SOOOOO many health problems that it's unreal. I feel that the more I can help prevent, the better. The benefits of immunizing VASTLY outweigh the risks.

We immunize Kayla because of what happened when she was born and the military doesn't really give us a choice on it.

I know a family here in town that both the parents are chiropractors and all 3 of there children are not immunized and they dont use like tylenol or other fever reducers and such.

My kids are immunized and the only one I was reluctant on was the chicken pox shot. I hel off on Brittany getting it but eventually she did get the shot.

Jan - here in Ct, you can't send your child to daycare without proof of getting the chicken pox vaccine.

Shari, I hope your SIL at least gets her kids the tetnis vaccine. There is no cure for it and it is fatal. There is only prevention. It can live in the soil for ages. When I was a child growing up on the farm, I had to get a tetnis shot about every year because we occassionally had animals die of it from bad soil from the previous owner who had horses with it. My dr told me then that he had had a patient die of tetnis. The man came in shortly after the swelling began, but it was too late, he was dead in 24 hours from the time he was punctured by a rusty nail covered in tetnis.

I think in the modern world we tend to forget people died, became disfigured and permnantly handicapped from diseases that practically do not exist in this country any more.

we do, I say give 'em all you got!
Yes, I get my children immunized. Many diseases are under control now only because the majority of people in the US get immunizations. There are some that I know how possible dangerous side effects but I think the benefits outweigh the risk.

Mine are immunized. I am wondering, if your kids are not immunized, do you homeschool them? Here in NC, if my kids aren't up to date on their shots, they get expelled from school. Is it like that everywhere?
Actually Eva, in NC one of the homeschool requirements is to have your kids vaccinated and to keep immunization records. I believe you can get a religious exemption to avoid immunization. I don't know if you can send them to school with that or not.
Yup both my kids are all up to date on their immunizations.

We immunize. I've got a few friends IRL that don't for various reasons though.

we are going next week for one more imunization, they are offering the chicken pox vaccine now... no charge, so i am getting it for logan might as well!
