Travis's birth story

We got to the hospital at 10:30, and got everything started. The nurse did this funky type of IV that I have never had and never want again. She used this LONG needle to get my IV going and then inserted a catheter. She couldn't find a good vein and put it half way between my wrist and my elbow on the under side of my left arm. It hurt so much when she did it, and it never stopped hurting.
So, the doctor came by to see us about 11:45--by then my mom, MIL, Emily, my best friend Stephanie, and Kyle's cousin Tracy were there. He said that he had an emergency c-section to do, so it would be about an hour and a half.
About 2:00, they gave me some acid neutralizer in my IV, and then some by mouth. That stuff made me feel funky. I felt and sort of nauseous. Then I got all freaked out. I wanted to go home, but I didn't say anything. I mean, how stupid, I knew I couldn't go home, but suddenly, I just wanted to stay pregnant and not go through with the c-section. Then, they came and got me and took me to the OR. I got my spinal first thing, which was great and relaxed me a little. The anesthesist could tell I was all freaked out, so he asked if I was okay, and I told him I was freaking out a little and starting to get nauseous. Then I started burping, and I really thought I might While I was feeling this way, the nurses, etc. were bustling around, getting all the tools and stuff ready. That freaked me out more! Then they strapped my arms down. Not good. More When they put the drape up, that helped for some reason. Then DH came in, and I couldn't even speak. He held my had and talked to me, and that was helpful, too. Then I started feeling pressure and stuff, and I asked if they had started and DH said that they had. I had no idea, and I was so glad they had started!
I had a lot of scar tissue, so Dr. S had a lot of cutting to do. The next thing I heard was Dr. S say, "Another big head!" So I asked if it was that big, and DH, Dr. S, and the anesthesist all said it was pretty big. (Travis's head was 12 cm in diameter! ) Dr. S had to use forceps to get him out of the opening. Then, I asked if he had hair, and Dr. S said he had a good bit. Then, out he came, and he cried immediately! Everyone kept saying how big he was, etc. The nurses were betting on his size.
He was born at 3:08 pm and weighed 8 lb 9 oz.
He's awake. I'll finish later.

Now I am so glad I'll be completely out for this process since I can't take medication by spine! I don't think I could handle being awake like that. You are brave!

The spinal was great except for the itching afterwards. I was fine once they got going, it was just the hour or so before up until they got DH in there.
But I have to tell you all, Emily was so good. She was up at 8 am on Friday, left our house at 9 am, and didn't leave to go home until 6:00 or so. She was great the whole time.

The anticipation is killer, isn't it?? I remember thinking the same thing ... I just wanted to jump off that bed and run hide. But I figure the kid had to come out eventually, so I might as well get it over with! I remember being SO ashamed that I was terrified and the wonderful anesthesiologist said he'd be *far* more concerned if I wasn't terrified!

Anyway, glad it went well and that you are home emjoying your new baby!

Surgery is so scary. I've never had a c-section which may be worse since you stay awake. At least you got a beautiful baby out of the deal

I'm glad everything went well. I had an epidural and a spinal with Noah. I got nauseous at the same time you did--when they laid me down and everyone was getting everything ready. I had a dose of anti-nausea meds and felt a ton better. The itchiness was the worst for me too. Benedryl helps with that.

They gave me Benadryl, but it didn't help, so they gave me something else in my IV--it started with a d and it helped. But eventually, we figured out my back was itchy because of the sheet. The fitted one was knit and the flat sheets were not, so they covered it with a flat sheet, which helped so much.

i'm glad everything turned out well!

i remember that feeling of nausia when i was on the table too, something about my blood pressure dropping, i think the best person during a section is the anistesiologist (sp) he was right there and asking how i was doing, i know it was his job but he was the best! the man with the good drugs!

Andrea, I totally agree!
When I had Emily, the nurse anesthesist really took care of me. He even put lip balm on my lips for me.
This time, the nurse anesthesist kept telling me what was going on and what to expect, and he was so nice. He was very friendly with Kyle and me, which was a comfort, and he kept asking if I was okay, etc.

I'm glad he's here and everybody's doing well.

I loved my anesthesiologist. He was the best.

I'm glad was all ok. You got me all freaked out if I ever want to have another one. I guess an emergency c-section dosen't give you time to think about all those things. I was scared enough and it was quick I can't picture having to wait and know what's going to happen.

Congratulations on your little boy.

OMG I soooo know what ytou mean about being nauseous.....they gave me that acid neutrilizer stuff (or whatever the heck it was)....its stuff that is supposed to help you from being nauseous or throwing up...............yeah right....I was sicker than a dog. I threw up a bit before....and lots after.....and the shakes.....holy man...

I am glad that your little one is here and all is great now  CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!11
