Still producing milk after three months of complete weaning???!!!!

Hello all. I am new to the forum and have a question I hope someone can help me with. I am a new mom, first time mom. I breast fed my daughter, who is now 15 months, until her first birthday. Now three months after a complete wean from breastfeeding, I am still able to express a small amount (a few tiny drops) from each of my breasts. The discharge is not spontaneous, and can only be evident when the nipple is "checked" for fluid or squeezed. The color is similar to that of colostrum that we all experience as breastfeeding begins.

Is this normal for me to still be expierencing the nipple discharge so long after I have weaned my daughter?

Please please advise.

Thank you!

If you get a lot of breast stimulation then yes you can still lactate.

Thank you for the quick response. I dont consider it a lot of stimulation. It really just has worried me so I find myself checking at least twice a day. I hope this is an issue that will resolve on its own. and SOON! Maybe I should visit my OB for a check on this??? or is something that all breastfeeding mothers experience?

Sorry!!! New mom, and new to the forum...i have too many questions! lol

That's ok! You might call your OB, but also, if you're checking twice a day that's prolly more stimulation than you would normally have, so your breasts are still producing a little. I had the same problem...I bet it took a few months to dry up totally.

I weaned a few months back and can still express milk although my breasts don't ever feel full and I don't have let down anymore.

Same here. I BFed for 15 months and I could still get a few drops up until about three or four months later. The more you try to see if there is anything there, the longer you will get something.

Same here. I had the same problem for at least a couple months after. Every so often I will see a drop here and there and my son's 7 months old.

You know, Ethan weaned 8 or 9 months ago and I still have these weird letdown feelings once in a while? Freak like me...

I haven't breastfed in 14.5 years and still several times a month there is a small (very small) milk 'crust' (for lack of a better term) on my nipples. I can also express a few drops of milk when the 'crust' is there (I have never tried to do so at other times) altho I very rarely attempt to do that. Maybe twice a year just to see if it is still happening.

The really weird thing is I only breastfed the twins for 7 weeks and I didn't have enough milk for them then

And I'm going thru menopause and it is still happening.

Bodies are weird things
