I'm reading Stop Dressing Your Six Year Old Like a Skank by Celia Rivenbark. It's so funny and so true.

I haven't seen that one! I just finished Running with Scissors last night. I wasn't impressed and only finished it because I hate to leave a book in the middle.

I started Running With Scissors a few years ago and never finished it. I just found the story really disturbing and sad. Have you read any of his other books? I really liked Magical Thinking and Possible Side Effects. Some of his stories about his days working in advertising are pretty funny.

Hmm, maybe I'll check them out. I was hoping this one was going to be like David Sedaris, who makes me laugh out loud, he is so funny....

GHOST GIRL
by Torey L. Hayden
The shocking story of a terrified, 8-year-old mute and the teacher who helps her to speak--only to reveal horrible acts of sexual abuse and satanic rituals. Explicit sex and language. (This one is at work)

DOG HEROES OF SEPTEMBER 11TH
by Nona Kilgore Bauer
During the days after 9/11, I wept as I read the Pulitzer Prize-winning 'Profiles' of victims in The New York Times. Five years later, I’m getting choked up again as I read the stories of rescue dogs who worked non-stop to locate people who did and didn’t make it out of the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. Trained so expertly by their handlers, these labs, golden retrievers, border collies, German shepherds, and dobermans worked miracles in the burning rubble. They climbed ladders, crawled into the tiniest tunnels, and, of course, comforted the living. In the tireless efforts of Sonnyboy, Quest, Piper, and Lucy, you’ll see another aspect of this historic event. And you’ll want to hug your own dog closer.” —Beth Goehring (In the living room)

Author: Sheila Walsh
Publisher: J. Countryman
Description:

In the beautiful, warm style of Outrageous Love, Sheila Walsh reminds women of this Open Invitation from the Heart of God. She walks readers through the invitation to Come As You Are, not just as you wish you were.

Topics include:

Come as you are-When you are afraid

Come as you are-When you are alone

Come as you are-When you are broken

Come as you are-When you are ashamed

Come as you are-When you are overwhelmed

Come as you are-When you are in crisis

And the final thrust of the book is:

Come as you are-but become as He is.

I'm reading The Fifth Elephant by Terry Prachett again. It takes a certain frame of mind to enjoy fantasy and satire at the same time, but that's me. I laugh my head off with his books. Since I am still mad at the library over the overdue book thing (they since wrote me a profuse apology over that), I am forced to read my old books over and over. Rincewind the Wizard is still my all time favorite Prachett character though. I need to start carrying a list with me of all the Terry Prachett books I own when I go to the bookstore so I don't accidentally buy the same one over.
