Anyone use powder formula

What's the scoop with powder formula? How much can you make at a time. Anyone here ever use it? How long once prepared does it keep in the frig? I would like to try this, thanks.

I use Enfamil Nutramigen, and I usually use the liquid formula. However, the pediatrician gave us three cans of the powdered formula, so I am using it from time to time. I think it says that you have to use the powdered within 24 hours of mixing and refridgerating it.
What kind are you planning on using? If it's an Enfamil brand, you can go to their website and it will tell you.

I found this:
Preparing ahead
To make your life a little less hectic, you can prepare a supply of bottles ahead of time (not more than 24 hours ahead for formula from powder and not more than 48 hours ahead for formula from concentrate or ready-to-use forms). Be sure to refrigerate (35 - 40°F) immediately and discard any formula remaining after these time periods.

I looked that up yesterday and I believe that is what it said too. I wonder if you could freeze it in advance, so you could have several days worth made up for work and just thaw it as needed.

I make a quart at a time. It covers Ryan's whole day and night. Never goes to waste.

We've got cans of Similac powdered formula and it says you can make it up to 24 hours in advance. I think I remember reading somewhere that you aren't supposed to freeze it but I'm not sure why it would matter.

Can infant formula be frozen?

Infant formula should not be frozen either before or after mixing. Freezing formula may cause it to become grainy or cause the fat to separate.
Right from Similac's website

I know we just carried the can around with us and made it when needed.

You can't freeze formula at all, regardless if it was originally powdered or liquid. I do remember reading that.

we did the same thing annie... just carried around the can of powdered formula and made up bottles as needed.

I have a powdered formula container that I carry around. You can measure out 3 different bottles and keep them in separate compartments so all you have to do is dump it in the bottle and add water.
I like using the powder because to make it warm all I need to do is add warm tap water. I have carried around bottles of water to mix when needed though if I know I won't be near a tap.

I had the same kind of thing as Elaine. It was great.

Thanks gals! I'm going to use the enfamil brand and she's already taking 3 oz bottles therefore I can make up to a quart like Kim suggested. I knew I would get the info I need from all the mommies here!

We used the powered formula for our kids. I got one of those quart rubbermaid containers and would mix up one or two at a time. As long as you keep them in the fridge, they'll keep for a few days. I think I used to make formula every other day if I remember correctly???

You can also just make up a bottle at a time. I used to keep distilled drinking water on hand and would just put two scoops of formula in a bottle with the water, then shake. We were on the road a lot when TJ was a baby, so that's basically how his bottles were made. He always drank his at room temp anyway ... wasn't big on heated bottles.

That's how I did it with Kiera.

I didn't know you couldn't freeze formula. Learn something new everyday.

i used to make it like Kim as well, and i would have to make a new batch every other day.

i liked powder compared to liquid concentrate cuz it didn't seem to stain like the non powdered, or so my sil told me and i think it was true.
