"Holier than Thou" parents

Most of us would consider ourselves good parents. We want what's best for our kids, and we do what we have to in order to make it happen the majority of the time. But do you ever feel like there's always someone who is constantly trying to prove that they're better than you?

Something just honked me off. I'm sure it wasn't meant to, but it irked me. I know that there are probably other people that have pet peeves about "holier than thou" parents.

Is there anything that really just gets your goose?

Like...

1. People talking down to you because you didn't (or couldn't) breast feed?

2. If you did breastfeed, they breastfed longer than you did.

3. People that think C-sections aren't ever necessary and tell you that the only reason you had to have one was because you were lazy or your doctor was impatient?

4. You buy some toys just because your child likes them or they're cute, and they're just that--TOYS. But you have a friend who thinks that everything she buys has to be 100% educational and labeled as such. (Like a baby doll isn't educational??)

What are some things that tend to get under your skin?

That stuff drives me nuts too - I formula fed one and breastfed the other and I just never could get this idea that some people have that a person is a better mother based on how they fed their child. Motherhood is so much more than how a person feeds their kids the first year or so you know? I went to bf support meetings several times and although everyone was so nice and I learned a lot, I felt an undercurrent of "we're better because we bf/cloth diaper/eat whole foods, etc" that I just couldn't relate to.

I have a friend who is really against C-sections and has told me several times why I can have a VBAC- which irks me, but I let it go because I just know her personality is such that she only sees it one way so I don't waste my time. Same thing with toys - my kids are not going to hell in a handbasket because they play with Barbies.

I really think sometimes people want an issue to grab onto to make themselves feel important or whatnot, if it's not religion it'll be something else.
