Balance

I thought you ladies would enjoy this.

My balance has gotten so bad that Mike and my Dad enjoy laughing at me because I trip over my own shadow. On the upside of it, since it's so bad they won't let me carry laundry up or down the stairs anymore because they're afraid I'll hurt myself Maybe I'll always have balance problem

That's nice that they care so much! My DH was like that with the first, a little less with the second and by the third and this time it's like . . . you've been pregnant for six years now - you can't use that as an excuse anymore!

Seriously, be careful and let them do all they will for you. My DH is wonderful doing things around the house and is always telling me to rest. One reason I keep having babies!

He's really sweet about stuff. He's always worried I'm picking up things that are too heavy (even groceries) or doing too much and that I need to rest.

I told him he's carrying the next one if there is another...that's still debatable

Because of the MS, my balance is always horrible. I had to have a little chat with dd about not laughing at people with balance problems the other day.

Ya Know sometimes I worry about Mike carrying all that stuff up and down the stairs too. His balance isn't always bad but sometimes it is and it only takes one missed step to hurt yourself.

Ataxia is a common problem for MS patients. I always use handrails when walking up or down stairs to keep myself steady and reduce falls. I broke my arm over it about 5 years ago walking down some stairs that did not have a handrail. Dh immediately installed a handrail even though it was a rental.

It is something for him to keep an eye out for and not be embarassed to talk about with you and his dr. I know how embarassing and humilitating it is to sway around like Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribean, but people cannot understand what you do not explain. So I try to be very honest with people about it and that usually stops the laughter and crude remarks about alchol and drug abuse that I sometimes get.
