I know we have a few on here, so I thought I'd post a link to this memorial project. We had a presentation about it at my DAR meeting this afternoon, and I think it's a wonderful project.

Very nice! There is supposed to be one on the Mall in Washington soon too. Our state commissioned one, but when the old WWII women vets saw the statue was not wearing a skirt , they said she was too masculine and the project pretty much died there. Our state now has women veteran license plates. I prefer we keep our Combat Veteran or switch to the Disabled Veteran tags. The Disabled Veteran tags would allow us to park in handicapped spots when dh is at his worst and can barely walk. Also, it exempts us from property tax on our van.

You should contact them, Lenora - get your story into their database. I don't know what all is involved in doing that, but there is a link on the site to request info on doing it.

My story isn't that exciting. Went to work one day, got sick as a dog, came down with MS. It's not like I fought off 50 bad guys with a pen knife. One of the things that is so hard for me to deal with is the anticlimatic way I got sick. I wasn't in the middle of a firefight, nothing exciting. I just breathed the wrong air and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It could have been anybody I worked with, but I was at work that day and they weren't. So I have MS now and they don't.

But there *is* more to your story... why you joined, where you served, things you saw. Just think about what you want to tell Kate and Cara in your autobiography.

That's true. But when I go to the VA, I hear all these men's stories about how they got hurt. And my story is, I was at work one day breathing... Then I feel sort of angry, because there was no way to fight back and it's just not very heroic, KWIM? If I had done something really heroic or been through something really dramatic, it might be easier to take. But there was no way anyone could have done anything in this situation. I wasn't even issued chemical weapons gear and even if I had been, the alarm system was not the best, the chem suits aren't the best. They aren't even rated to handle a lot of these chemical/biological agents. I'm so glad for the men and women out there today that between the combined forces, most of that stuff has been destroyed. However, the depleated uranium is worse than ever out there.
