Ava's Birthday

I woke up on Tuesday (my due date) feeling really crappy. About 9:30 I noticed that I felt a little wet, but thought nothing of it because I was convinced that this baby was never going to come out. I was having contractions that were more frequent, but not uncomfortable, so I just went about my business. Around 2:30, I had been lying on the couch for awhile, I got up and noticed that I had a wet spot on my butt, so I called the dr's office and the nurse told me to go to L&D just in case. I did a few more house chores and we got there about 5 pm. Dr came at about 6:30 and checked me. I was still only 3 cm but my water had in fact broken, was just dribbling out. I walked around for a while and made no progress, so at 10pm I was put on Pitocin drip. That's when they came hard and fast....so around midnight I got my epidural. I fell asleep immediately afterward and Daddy went into the waiting room and fell asleep on the floor! Around 2:30 he came in and crawled into the bed with me, and about 3 I asked my mom if I was having a contraction because I felt like something was widening out down there. The nurse came and checked me...sure enough there was no cervix left and the babies head was right there. She said there was "lots of long hair." Dr came in, checked me, and ran out to get her waders! Since it all happened so quick, my epidural was still active and I couldn't feel the contractions coming. I had to watch the monitor to know when I was having one so that I could push. I pushed through only about 4 or 5 contractions when her head squeezed out, took a small breath and gave the tiniest little beginnings of a push and she came SHOOTING out...literally. The Dr almost dropped her she came out so fast. We did not find out what we were having during pregnancy so I was so elated when I saw that it was a girl before the Dr even said it. I am still in shock over how quick, easy and painless this delivery was. I prepared through my horrible painful pregnancy, but was rewarded so well in the end. I am truly truly lucky to have had such an easy time of it. So Ava Raye was born at 3:39 am on Wed Nov 15. She was 8 lbs even and 21 in long. She is still a bit jaundiced but we're keeping a close eye on her. Good luck to everyone else. I wish everyone a delivery as easy....but that wouldn't be very good birth control would it?? LOL
Take care and Good luck!
