Not sure what to do...

When we moved, we had to move out in one day. That meant only one trip with the moving van. We were not planning on having another baby so soon, so I left a lot of my stuff. I need it. I can't afford to buy it, so what do I do? I can't ask someone to throw me a baby shower.. can I? I have some new friends here, maybe they have some things to give away.

I have a bit of clothing. What I don't have..

a bouncy seat ( would LOVE a papasan)
A sling carrier
a swing
bathtub
cloth diapers (not sure i really need many)
I need more onsies and sleepers
swaddle blankets
walker ( or one of those round.. seat.. play.. thingies)
um.. I am sure there are other things I can't think of at the moment. So see, not big ticket items, just things I need. So.. you think I could ask one of my newer Moms meet up ( yahoo group here in MB) about a shower? I know my family would if I asked.. but I don't wanna ask them.
Or should I just ask and see if anyone has baby stuff to give away? Ugh... I knew the moment I got rid of that stuff I was going to need it.

If we weren't due so close together, I could send you a box of that sort of stuff. I plan on getting rid of everything after this baby because this is the end of babies for us.

Wish I had it to send sweetie... If you had posted this a bit sooner I would have said ask Misty, but there stuff already shipped to Hawaii. I know you all don't like to deal with Dad, but I think if you mention you need stuff for the baby he might come thru with a few things... Never hurts to ask.

thanks.

Heather, um.. I don't think George is talking to your dad at all, and there would be no way I would go behind his back and do it. I wish I had thought that I needed this stuff earlier I think I will check out my moms group and see who's getting rid of stuff.

I wouldn't ask for a shower, but that's me. Try Craig's List in your area and thrift stores. You might also just let people know you need things and they may start looking around at what they don't need anymore. You have plenty of time to slowly build up baby stuff.

I probably won't ask for one. It just doesn't seem right.

I have some things I can send to you. Our babies are far enough apart that I should be able to help you out a good bit. Travis has already outgrown sleepers, so I can send you some. Also, I have a sling carrier that I don't plan on using. I'll send you that, too.
So, as for clothes, I can help you with that.
I think Dana has some great ideas.
Can you do yard sales (not that you'll find that many right now), and also I know the consignment shops in our area run clearance sales monthly. You may want to check into that.
I'll go through Travis's stuff and start a goody box for you, okay?

I have two swaddle sleeper things that we bought for Travis, but he didn't like them. I'll send those to you, too. I know Abby (teacherinct) had a lot of success using those with her boys.

I don't know if you have Right from the Start or Birth to Three there. I gave a bunch of Kate's old stuff to them since they and WIC run a place called The Good Shepard. Parents can buy stuff for kids there at 25 cents an item. I plan on giving all my stuff to them when Cara no longer needs it. If you have Right from the Start or Birth to Three, I would call and ask them. I'm not sure you get WIC or would be interested in talking to the WIC people, but they gave me stuff when my dd was born too.

I was also going to suggest Craigslist in your area, and if you have a local Freecycle, check there, too.

our freecycle sucks, but I have been watching things. Lenora, we have NONE of those and I am on WIC.

Thank you all for the advice I will look into some other things and Tammy! Bless you!!!
do you have freecycle in your area? You can get some of that stuff off of there
post #13 of 22
my freecycle kinda sucks too, but i would post a 'looking for' post anyhow, you never know who is getting rid of what
post #14 of 22
That's too bad. I guess some stuff is just a lot better in some states than others. I got loads of stuff for Kate from those groups. Plus I got some t-shirts and a nice nursing blouse from WIC.

thanks ladies. We came home from my mom's tonight and someone had put one of the old fashioned play pins at our door. We didn't find out til hours later who it was when they came asking if we took it in or if the hispanics across the parking lot did. It was very thoughtful and sweet.. the only problem is.. I've never seen those as safe. I don't mean the wooden ones, it's padded and all, but I used to get my own fingers caught in the.. joints (I think that's what you would call them) all the time babysitting.
You mean sort of like this type of playpen? If so, I had one, and it was wonderful. Never had a problem with the joints, and we were always moving it from our house to my in-laws (who were watching DS while I worked).

Try Craig's List. Also, if there is FreeCycle in your area, try that. I've given away and gotten some nice things that way.

I was going to suggest Craig's List, Live Deal, or FreeCycle.

Have you registered for anything? That way people can buy it and have it shipped to you if they buy online. And it's not like you're really hitting them up for stuff.

I have registered.. just not told anyone LOL and no Judy not a pack and play
Kinda like this one. HERE but older and not as padded.

I've wondered about the safety of those too, Shona.

Randy is growing FAST!! He's already in 3-6 and about to go to 6-9 in clothing and I have some clothes that he's never even worn. My mom wants me to hang onto everything, but if you need something that I have, I will gladly send it to you. I have some stuff that I haven't even looked through yet. Just let me know ok.
