Sleep positioners

Did any of you use these on your young babies?
When I was pregnant with Emily, I registered for one--you know they have a pad to the back and one to the front so that babies can sleep on their sides?
BUT my prepared childbirth instructor told us that they were not safe and not to use it. So, I promptly returned mine. Emily was happy sleeping on her back until she was able to turn over on her side, and from then on she slept on her side.
Travis seems to like sleeping on his back, but he has a lot of gas, so he is often restless. During naps, I will let him sleep on his tummy because I can check on him constantly, which I do. I won't let him sleep on his tummy at night because I am asleep (obviously) and can't check on him. He doesn't have good enough head control to sleep on his tummy unsupervised.
MIL often lets him nap on his side, supported by pillows on each side or rolled up blankets. So, I have been thinking of buying a sleep positioner for him.
Did anyone use one and like it?

I used one with Zachary and liked it. I removed the head pad so that I could scoot him up far enough that the side supports were only supporting his lower torso... I was worried he would somehow slip down and burry his face in the side of it. He never did though.
Gracie is a stomach sleeper no matter what I do. At 7 month old I don't worry about it much though. She only sleeps with one loose sheet (her favorite) and sometimes pulls it over her face but getting her to stop is a losing battle.

I never used one - I was too paranoid about them. I wake a billion times during the night to check on them anyway but I personally don't feel safe with them.

I had one and used it with Lauren. She would never sleep on her back, so supporting her to sleep on her side (when she would sleep by herself) was the best we could do.

With Ryan, forgetaboutit.... he's a belly sleeper and there's no way in *BLEEP* he's gonna sleep on his back OR side. He spent most nights sleeping on us - with the reflux, restlessness and such, he wouldn't sleep alone.

I read where if you have a child with breathing problems (esp preemies) or reflux/spitting up issues, it's best to let them sleep on their tummies.
Karen, I still check on Emily when I wake up and she's almost 4, so I am right there with you, honey.
I worry about him slipping down, too, which is why the childbirth instructor said they weren't safe.
I don't know--I am going to Target. I'll look and decide then.

I had one and I used it some, but not a ton. We propped him up on his boppy a lot.

You could use one for naps and see how he does with it before using it at night.

I used them for all three babies. I never had an issue with them sliding down. I also positioned it lower so it wouldn't be near their faces. None of mine would sleep on their backs. The other thing that helped is the piece in the front made them feel like their was something against their belly and it really helped.

With Zachary and Bailey it was recommended that they sleep on their side so we used a side positioner. With Emily she had reflux so bad that she would literally start choking on her spit up if laying on her stomache or side so per the advice from a Ped. she slept in her carseat a lot. Poor baby!
Payton slept on her side until she was 3mo old but I just used rolled up recieving blankets. Once her neck was strong enough that she could pick up her head well enough she slept on her belly. Both of my boys did the same thing. They liked their belly best. And what is weird is that every single one of my kids sleep on their backs now that they are older. Weird!
I didn't like having my kids sleep on their backs all the time as infants because now a big problem is children having a flat head and having to wear a helmet to fix it. A couple of friends and family members have had this happen to their children and also someone that I used to babysit. It's sad and they surely don't like those helmets!

I know, Krista, I worried about that a lot with Emily, but since I held her when she napped from the timie she was 2 or 3 months old until she was 7 months old, she wasn't at risk of getting that flat spot. I think I will try the sleep positioner with Travis. I figured all along that I would position it lower down, toward his tummy so it would be far from his face.

I used a sleep positioner with David. I didn't bother with any of the others, but I did lay them on their sides a lot and just let them roll onto their backs while they were sleeping. I really think that Elizabeth would be happier on her tummy because she is so gassy but I'm too paranoid to try it.

I am stubborn. My kids, especially Jerome, were both belly sleepers. I got the Angel Care monitor, that monitors their breathing. It's just a pad you place under their mattress, and it sounds an alarm when no breathing is detected for 20 seconds. I still have it, and if you PROMISE to return it, I can let you borrow it. It just made me feel a lot better that at least I would hear if something happens. It went of a few times when they were older, because they scooped up, but I am definetely planning on using it again if I am lucky enough to be allowed to use it again.

we had a sleep positioner, used it for the first couple of months, he liked to be snuggled tightly. then he was on his belly from there on out.

we also had an Angel Care monitor, it helped me get alot more undisturbed sleep. although it did go off alot because he was a mover when he slept... if he got off the pad there was no movement and the alarm sounded!

I never had one. My dd wouldn't sleep by herself. She did enjoy sleeping on her belly with the reflux being so bad. I'm like you and Karen, Tammy. I still check on dd a lot when she sleeps. For one thing, some days it's the only time of the day she's not being naughty.

I did use the boppy to prop her up a lot when she napped.
