Do you think Honor Roll Names should be printed in the paper in full?
YES! I think it is such a shame that parents are having that cancelled because their baby isn't on it. Way to punish those that excell...

I don't know the story...
I can't see a large town with many schools doing that (I grew up in a city with 6 highschools, 9 middle schools, and countless elementary schools) but I'm all for the ones who can.

My view of the question is for safety reason's. Other then that I do not think it is bad to see other children's name in the paper because they made it. Something for all people to be proud of.

Annie, what do you mean "safety reasons"?
To me, this falls under the taking away tag rules they are doing these days. Some schools tossed out red pens and use purple because red meant "bad". Some schools don't even assign number grades anymore. It's a joke. So the kids that work hard and are high achievers need to do it secretly so as to not hurt the feelings of the kids that didn't? What does that teach? It doesn't teach responsibility of actions, pride in achievements, and how to deal with disappointments and failure. I tell ya, I've said it before, we're raising a bunch of pansies.....

I TOTALLY think that the honor roll should be celebrated. I busted my @$$ in school for good grades. I EARNED it. Same for these kids...they EARNED it, so let them celebrate. Maybe it will motivate other kids to work harder for the same recognition.

I am so SICK of political correctness I could just !!! If you do the work, celebrate it. If you didn't, TOUGH NOOGIES.

Safety reason, that strangers no what school a child goes to and know their first and last name. Yes I know for a stranger to learn who the child is might be hard, but they say most strangers are people we know.

I agree, why do they have to be a secret and why should they not be honored? Like Kim said they worked their tails off for it, they deserve a hand.

I agree with Kim. I busted my in school getting good grades, and I was always so excited to see my name in print. It was nice to know that somebody noticed!

I have reservations about my kids' names being in the paper when there is a picture to go with it because of safety concerns. There have been instances where perverts have managed to find out where certain kids lived and their phone numbers and harassed them and their families simply because they saw them in the paper.

As for honoroing those that achieved, I think it's great but I do see the point about those that work just as hard but still can't get the grades that others do. I do however want my kids' names in the paper if and when they make the honor roll or make some other achievement for which they should be recognized.
