nipples?

we have been using the ones the hospital gave us, but they only fit on their little 2oz bottles. He's starting to ALWAYS take the 2 oz so we need to go to our regular bottles.

How many tries does it usually take before you know if he'll take the nipple I'm trying? I assume at least a few because its something different but when do I give up? I only have 2 options right now. Advent and 2nd nature (which I know he'll like because there is only like one place that sells them). Any tricks to getting him to take a new nipple?

Maybe add a little bit of sugar to the nipple, something sweet to get him to suck? Personally, I hated the Advent bottles/nipples because they tended to leak. I used the soothie from Babies R Us. Not sure who the maker is. They come in the 4 oz and 8 oz bottles and aren't too expensive. Good luck!!

I'm not really sure.. with both of my kids if I was a nipple they'd take it..

Brenna for some reason ONLY likes the Gerber rubber ones... not the silicone and nothing with the "nubs" on them.

Did you know right away she liked that one? did she take it right away? or do I still have to try it a few times before I really know?

I didn't know right away. She was breastfed before starting a bottle so it was all a little awkward for her. I think she preferred the rubber ones though because they sort of stretch and close with her sucking where the silicon ones are harder and keep their shape. She had reflux so being able to control the flow was very important. I actually started on the preemie ones because they were the slowest but now at 8 months she is drinking from the larger ones.

Oh, I also found that almost every other brand of the basic bottles and nipples leaked pretty badly.

I think that you will find that once you find a flow that he likes, he will adjust to and prefer whatever shape you start off with.

I found with Jaedyn it took 2 tries. I started with a Airvent bottle and switched to the Evenflo Comfi with a slow flow nipple. I do know this:

Silicon is hard to suck and bite through
Rubber is easier to suck and does tend to stretch out easier

Karen is right and you will find that you go through more of the rubber nipples because they don't stand up to time and abuse as well as silicon. You can't leave them sitting in water long because they swell and deteriorate. They do tend to be cheaper though.
What you can do is find a brand of bottle that doesn't leak (my choice is Gerber) and then try out all the different nipples that fit that size to save some money.
