I finally remembered the titles of the last two books my grandparents read to me as a child! 
I've been trying to remember and find this story of a little boy who goes on all these adventures and does all these silly things. I just remembered the cover was of a boy in a 19th Century French outfit hanging upside down from a tree branch.
Since my cousin sent me all these great photos of my grandpa, it finally jogged my memory. The book was The Adventures of Silly Billy by Tamara Kitt. Then while I was at the site for vintage children's books, I found the other story they used to read to me by the same author - The Secret Cat!
I've been trying to remember the names of the stories my grandparents read to me ever since my oldest dd was born! Finally, I remember the last two! My grandparents only had about 3 or 4 books at their house for us, so I think I am at the end of my quest now.
These old books go out of print and are harder than heck to find, so I am so glad I found them both at Amazon.
