Adults running a fever

How long should you wait to call a doctor when you're running a fever if you have no other symptoms? Well, I have a fever and my joints are aching, but nothing else. This is the second day and I don't know what's wrong. I had a flu shot. No one else in the family has been sick. I took my temp a few minutes ago and it was 102.7 . I just hate to waste a trip to the doctor for no reason.

When did you get your shot?

Have you taken Tylenol or anything for the temp?

I would recommend calling the doctor. Last time I had a fever and aches, it turned out I had strep. It may be something that needs treatment.

I second what Judy said! Need I remind you of my strep fiasco where I kept getting it, but the kids were just carriers???

Dina, I had my flu shot in Nov. I've taken ibuprofen and it brings it down, but I hate to take it constantly especially since I'm nursing. Sounds like I'd better call the doctor. I tend to be a bit of a hypochondriac so I wanted a second opinion before I called.

Had to laugh! I am too and because of that, I tend to be nearing death before I go in myself! Isn't that odd? You'd think a hypochondriac would be in the doctor's office at the first sniffle, but I guess because we *know* we are, we hold off.

Glad I'm not alone in my craziness. You know what they put on the hypochondriacs tombstone? ....... "I told you I was sick."

I called the doctor and went in at 3:45. He is fairly sure that it's not strep (no swollen glands, throat looked great). He did a flu test just to make sure I didn't have that even though I had a shot. That was negative. So he doesn't know. He said it's probably some sort of virus that will be over soon. But if I have any change of symptoms or if the fever is not gone by Friday morning, then I'm supposed to call back and he'll run some other tests. Hopefully I'll just get better.

Gotta remember that one!

Glad it's nothing too serious, but better safe than sorry!

Yep, I'd definitely check with your MD. ESPECIALLY since you are nursing too.

Glad you are feeling better.

I know I have to be super sick to go in. and Honestly its been a LONG time since I went in. I would rather be miserable at home than go in.

Usually that's how I am. I went 10 years without seeing a doctor except for my ob/gyn. Then I wound up with gallstones that took a while to diagnose and then had another baby. I guess I just got into the habit It had been since like November since I'd seen a doctor. I guess I was going through withdrawals and couldn't wait until my appt with the dermatologist on the 31st

yeah I'd have to say I don't think I have seen a reg dr since HS other than my midwife (and the girls drs for them) so its like 11 years. But if I feel well enough to function then I don't bother.
