SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A woman who competed in a radio station’s contest to see how much water she could drink without going to the bathroom died of water intoxication, the coroner’s office said Saturday.

I can't imagine this... I don't even really blame the radio station, except maybe they should have had medical staff on hand to watch people.

Apparently she died at home though.. so the medical staff may not have even helped.. although if her head was hurting that bad, they may have taken a look at her.

So.. basically she drowned from the inside out?? How do you get water intoxification??

It flushes out all your electrolytes. It happens to marathon runners more so than anyone. But it's VERY rare!

In medicine, water intoxication (also known as hyperhydration or water poisoning) is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain function that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside of safe limits by a very rapid intake of water.
She should have never left if she was hurting so bad that she was crying. And who let her leave???

I was going to say, it's not so much that you have too much water in your system, but not enough sodium, because water flushes it out.
