What kind of doctor should I contact?

I think that Jonathan may have Bruxism. He grinds his teeth in his sleep, and this would also explain the chewing he constantly does (and the biting, and constantly having his mouth on things). I read that it is fairly common in children with Autism. So, I want to have this checked out.

Should I contact our family doctor, a specialist, or a dentist?

Not the expert here (obviously) but I know that we spoke with Jessi's dentist about this and they told me about a device they could order for her if the problem persisted. She has outgrown hers, but it sure wouldn't hurt to have his teeth checked out and discuss it with the dentist!

I'm not sure what you can do since having a device in his mouth may not go over very well. They suggested corrective surgery for me. You can also check at somewhere like Walmart around the pharmacy section they carry and mouth guard for grinders. It's much less expensive than the one you get at the dentists office.

I'm a teeth clencher and had to have a guard fitted. My regular dentist did it. I guess I'd start there, the regular dentist can always send you to some sort of specialist.

I'd check with your family MD and a dentist.
