Well, we are still hanging in. Some days are better than others. Today was not a good day. My mom was asleep and out of it most of today. She was not able to get up without help, but she woke up later in the afternoon and talked to us some, and she did eat, which is amazing. Over the past two weeks, she probably has not taken in 500 calories collectively, so when she ate a little rice and half a piece of broiled fish today, Angie and I were happy.
Mom's condition changes often. Sometimes she's great in the mornings, and incoherent in the afternoons and vice versa. We just take it a day (or less) at a time.
We are trying to find a CNA to come and stay with her M-F during the day so that I can get Emily to and from school and so that I can spend some time doing my normal stuff--taking care of Travis and participating at Em's school as needed. It's been tougher to find someone than we really thought it would be, so pray that we find another great person like the one we have with Mom at night. The weekends are another story. I can't pay someone to be there all day on the weekends, so we are relying on friends to help us. I am thankful we have friends who are willing to give me a break, as it will all be on me in a few days.
Angie leaves on Saturday. I am so sad she won't be here, and I am scared about handling this alone, but she needs to go home and be with her family.
Angie and I are exhausted, as it's very intense sitting there all day, wondering what every little nuance means. It's mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting, but as someone pointed out--it's not forever. We know that, but the days do feel very long, and it's hard to be away from your family and your normal life like this. We miss our kids and our husbands. I am sorry to ramble. The gist of it is that Mom's condition is up and down, and we are just riding it out. Thanks for all the concern, support, and prayers.
