What can pull your kids away...

from the video games?

Every time my kids are stuck inside they seem to gravitate towards the computer or game system. I can't really blame them, I spend my down time on the computer too, but I don't like to see them waste hours in front of a screen.
Thankfully pretty much any activity that I agree to do with them can pull them away. They love to color together or play playdough. It's just finding the time and energy to put in to it that is difficult.

Joey likes reading sometimes, but right now, he's actually CLEANING HIS ROOM (without me asking him to do it ) so he can play with the new domino set he got at the local thrift - one of those things where you line up domines all over, then knock them down. Last night, he used a paint set he got for his birthday. But sometimes, he's just in the mood to XBox...

Fortunately, we don't have a game system. A decision George and I made together. We don't want the kids addicted to video games, and from what I've seen MOST ( not all) Are so violent.. I wouldn't let them play it anyway. However, the computer is a big deal around here, but they have to earn their time on it.

Do they like puzzles or board games?

Dominoes and card games, too. They work the reasoning skills and most require a little bit of math or thinking.

Crafts of some kind...

Mad libs (If Zach's old enough for these). It doesn't require you to be there and they're always funny to read back.

I don't worry about it too much, because my dd's only video games are Leapster and they are educational and not violent at all. She likes drawing, crafting, playing with her stuffed animals and playing with her baby sister. She also enjoys torturing the cat.

Alyssa gets bored with them after like 30 minutes and shes off to something else. I'm not too worried about it right now

Raymond sometimes gets like this with his gamecube. he too has to earn his playtime for video games and its only an hour. he does have a vsmile which i dont mind but he doesnt really have a problem finding other stuff to do. theyre are kids here he can play with so they go outside and ride their scooters or he plays cars and with his wrestlers.
