My wife and I just discovered she is pregnant about 3 weeks ago. This is our first time, so we're scrambling to try to adapt to all the lifestyle changes this will entail for her.
Anyway, one thing she's running up against is how to keep the fact that she has one in the oven a secret from her girlfriends. She's feeling really guilty about lying to them and worries she won't be believed when she goes out to dinner with her friends and doesn't have a glass of wine or two which she normally would. She's used the "I'm sick" excuse, and will be able to milk the "I gave up alcohol for Lent" thing with her family and co-workers, but her friends know she's basically a non-practicing catholic.
Does anyone have suggestions for excuses they've used with their friends during the first trimester for abstinence from alcohol? I'm doing the best I can to support her and her new dietary restrictions, uncharacteristic irritability and moodiness (the worst part for me), but I don't have all the answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

Personally, I didn't keep it a secret for even five minutes. I couldn't wait to tell everyone.
