Need help for my wife: keeping 1st trimester secret!

My wife and I just discovered she is pregnant about 3 weeks ago. This is our first time, so we're scrambling to try to adapt to all the lifestyle changes this will entail for her.

Anyway, one thing she's running up against is how to keep the fact that she has one in the oven a secret from her girlfriends. She's feeling really guilty about lying to them and worries she won't be believed when she goes out to dinner with her friends and doesn't have a glass of wine or two which she normally would. She's used the "I'm sick" excuse, and will be able to milk the "I gave up alcohol for Lent" thing with her family and co-workers, but her friends know she's basically a non-practicing catholic.

Does anyone have suggestions for excuses they've used with their friends during the first trimester for abstinence from alcohol? I'm doing the best I can to support her and her new dietary restrictions, uncharacteristic irritability and moodiness (the worst part for me), but I don't have all the answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

Well... she might just say that she thinks she has reflux. When you have reflux you really can't drink much because it makes the stomach acid come right back up your throat.

Congrats btw

Congratulations!

She could just tell them that she's having hormonal issues (which would be true) and that her doctor had advised her against drinking for a while to see if it helped.

She could say she's taking some meds that are not good to mix with drinking.

Congrats!!!

Congrats! I don't have any advice because I couldn't keep it a secret. I was too excited and then I was so sick no one would have believed anything else I said.

Congratulations!

She could always say she's trying to live a healthier lifestyle and she has Aunt Flo. Men have been saying women have AF every time a woman gets mad for years. Personally, I didn't keep it a secret for even five minutes. I couldn't wait to tell everyone.
