I got an IUD in October and I expected a heavier period for a time. The doctor told me that it would level out in time. It ha to a points, but I still have one really heavy day. Like heavy enough that a Super Plus tampon only lasts me an hour...Is that normal?? I have *never* had periods that heavy. Before I got pregnant they were about 3 days long at the longest and very very light (like I used lite tampons only), so this is new territory for me. I have the copper IUD, if this is going to be a normal thin g I may see about changing to the Mirena

I have the Mirena and love it. My last period wasn't heavy but I have been spotting since I had it inserted. If your not bleeding in between periods I would say for not give it another month or so.
I had mine insert on 01-24 and they told me to wait at least 3 months. I wouldn't really count the first one either considering your bodies is just getting used to it.

Oh wow, my periods are lite now that I am on the patch, but from you..my gosh I guess it's heavy. Mine last for 7 days and I have 1 day where I can use one super plus tampon in one to two hours. That's lite for me. Before my patch it used to be up to 3 days where I would use 15 plus super plus tampons a day. Extreme pain and cramping too.
I hope it gets better, but I'd hang in there a little longer.

I heard that some women have heavy periods with the copper IUD and lighter ones with Mirena. I chose the Mirena. I had it put in at my 6 week PP check on Feb 2 and I've been spotting/bleeding off and on since then. I was told though that it can take 3 months to stop spotting. It's not enough for me to not like it though.I was always told if you fill more then a pad an hour to call the doctor. I'd call and ask being a little heavier then normal is one thing but if it's continuously like that I'd start to wonder. I always had periods that lasted 6 or 7 days when I wasn't on birth control.
