Oh no! Poor Kelly!

First a little background...
I have a friend Kelly who at 31 weeks started having contractions. She was hospitalized and they successfully stopped labor. Less than two weeks later the contractions started again, nothing intense so she road it out a few days. When they became frequent she went to the ER again and once again had labor stopped. At a little over 34 weeks it happened again with really strong contractions and at that time she was 1 cent. dilated. She was put on magnesium sulfate and stayed in the hospital two days. They never successfully stopped the contractions but she wasn't progressing so she was sent home and put on bed rest when they slowed considerably.
She is now 36 weeks and 4 days and is completely misserable. She's 3 centimeters and having constant (although not always strong) contractions. She was almost in tears talking to me a few nights ago and saying how she had to have this baby. I told her (against my good judgement) that Castor Oil is known to bring on strong contractions and if everything is ready, help things progress. She was desperate so she tried it. Didn't even care how bad it tasted... she just tipped the bottle back and drank the 2 oz. She threw it up once so did it again and the second time kept it down.
Contractions started strong about 3 hours later and then after 6 hours were only 2 mins apart so she decided to go to L&D. Poor thing hadn't progressed AT ALL in dilation and ...
THEY STOPPED LABOR AGAIN!! Could you imagine? I guess the doctor just thinks it is better for the baby to stay put a little while longer but if she had been 4 or 5 days further along they probably would have just let her go.
In a way it's funny that she went through all that and in a way it's incredibly sad.

Poor Girl!!! That bites. But with Ryan they made me wait until 37 weeks, even though I measured 40 wks at 35 weeks and looked like the TITANIC!

Poor thing. My OB told me she wouldn't stop labor after 36 weeks either. I would have died having contractions that long

Sorry to hear about your friend. Just tell her to hang on and if she can hit 4 cm. they may help her along because they call it advanced cervical dilation. I know how your friend feels, it is very miserable and after a little while you just want the baby OUT! I had PTL at 28 weeks and they stopped it. At 33 weeks, I was 1 cm, at 36 weeks I was 3 cm. and the nurse at my OB's office said she didn't think I would make it another week, and she was right. I had Randy 6 days later. It is the most awful feeling to feel like you've spent weeks in labor. The last 4 weeks of my pregnancy felt that way. Wish her the best of luck and tell her to let nature run its course. She'll do fine and once that baby comes, she won't care about any of this.
